Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg in Saturday's match against Blackburn.
The injury was confirmed after the £14m France international was taken to hospital following a tangle with Blackburn defender Jay McEveley.
Liverpool said Cisse had broken the tibia and fibula in his left leg and would have an operation on Sunday.
"Unfortunately, he is unlikely to play again this season," a spokesman said.
Liverpool's Milan Baros and Jamie Carragher sustained broken legs in the league fixture at Blackburn last year.
