I think you need to take into account that some of the fees paid for players would have been during the time transfer fees were at an overinflated price.

Its a bit misleading because its not like West Ham have gone out and spent 17m in the summer.

Shearer could be 40 and in the Newcastle squad and worth nothing but would still have been bought for 15m. Prices deflate over time so not the true value of their squads.

May I add that this is £4mm over 4 years roughly, so around £1mm per annum.

Also our wage bill is 4th lowest in the Championship according to John Madejski and Nigel Howe at a recent fans forum

thank god you've told us that

That makes absolutely no odds whatsoever. If somebody is still a player for that team, they go into how much the team cost to assemble, does not matter one jot whether their value decreases or increases over time or not.

How much is paid for a player is only the subjective view of the two clubs doing the deal. For example, £1.5M for Zamora from Brighton to Spurs, does that mean he was worth £1.5M? Possibly not, to us he was worth £3M, and to Tottenham he was worth £750,000, so whatever is paid for a player has to go into the squad assembly calculations, even if the transaction happened 9 years ago....

Crewe have also done a great job being where they are.

Very nice of you to say so. Probably because the team that beat Leeds 2-0 at Elland Road was made up of a free transfer from Huddersfield, a keeper signed for 50k from Trinidad and NINE Academy players.

Don't come on here and boast about your ability to spend £50k on a player you rich northern bastards.
