Clubs poised for Carling Cup draw

Manchester United are the current holders of the Carling Cup
The draw for the first round of next season's Carling Cup will be made on Wednesday 21 June at 1200 BST.

With Premiership clubs not entering the competition until the second and third rounds, the draw involves the 72 Football League clubs.

They are split geographically north and south with half the clubs seeded.

The seedings are based on last season's league positions so all the clubs from the Championship plus the top finishers in League One are in the seeded group.

Accrington Stanley are involved in the competition for the first time since its inaugural season of 1961/62 while Hereford, who also won promotion from the Conference last season, are back in it after a nine-year absence.

The 12 Premiership clubs not involved in European competition will join at the second round stage, with the eight other sides taking their place in the third round.

Manchester United are the current holders of the trophy, having beaten Wigan 4-0 at the Millennium Stadium in last season's final.

So who will knock us out at the first round this year???

According to the Official website, we're one of 18 seeded teams in the Southern catergory, meaning we will avoid Championnship opposition in the first round.

That list is missing Hereford. Why would that be?
