Can anyone tell me where the £1 went?

Three people went for a meal the bill came to £30. So each person put in £10 and gave it to the waiter. The waiter went to the chef with the £30 who told the waiter that as the three were regulars he should charge them £25.

The waiter kept £2 and gave £1 back to each person. So the three paid £9 each.

3 x 9 = 27 + the £2 is £29?

Where is the other £1?

So the waiter just tipped himself? If he's that cheeky, he probably had the other £1.00 away as well :dunce:

Its the age old problem of mixing subtracting and adding - the £1 has got lost as the result of going up to £30 through addition, and then going back down through subtracting.

There is no answer - its one of those problems that you can't solve as there really does appear to be £1 missing !!

The three diners paid £25 for the meal, which is £8.33 each. They gave the waiter £30, of which he kept £2 for himself(which is a tip of 67p per customer) and the customers £1 each back.

Therefore the meal cost £27 (£25 plus £2, including tip) which works out at £9 each customer.

Yeah got it but took some time.

Forget about the £30 cos they only paid £27.

The Meal cost £25 and the waiter took £2
