past couple of weeks and has clearly done enough to impress manager Jim Magilton having put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal.

Brittain left Newcastle at the close of the past campaign after failing to make the breakthrough at St James' Park but Magilton is confident he has captured the services of a player with considerable promise.

"Martin has been with us for a few weeks and he's done very well," Magilton told the club's website.

"He gives us something different on the flank and we have offered him a one-year contract which we are delighted he has agreed to."

Meanwhile, Town have handed a trial to former Espanyol defender Antonio Soldevilla.

The 27-year-old spent last term at Poli Ejido but is now a free agent, jetting into the Championship outfit in a bid to land permanent stay
