i know i am going to get slagged for this but i really believe we need someone like paul watson back in the team.

ok, he is not blessed with pace and is not the best tackler, but remember him a few years back overlapping from right back, cutting inside and bending perfect curling balls with his left foot into the oncoming path of bobby zamora's head. i know that was a lower level but we scored goals for fun back then. also, he was a freekick/deadball specialist.

i would like to have seen mm maybe play him on the right of midfield where his defensive attributes would not have been tested too severely.

was watto released because he was injured? if not, then get him back now, we miss him like man utd miss beckham.

good point, wotto was the best passer of the ball weve had for the last few years.

I deffinatly agree.I was dissapointed to see him released. He was a good squad player and could have been used at left-back to cover for Mayo,so could Jones for that fact.

Cant see it happening though.

He was pretty poor during his last season. And he never was the bravest of defenders.

safeway, the beckham/watto comparison was not intended as a direct player comparison.

more the affect each players absence has had on their respective teams.

you can't deny that van nistelroy has been crying out for beckham's crosses. van was shite last season

He was on trial at Coventry but even Micky decided not to give him a contract (unless he is still on trial there)

Watto hardly played at all last season because he was injured. The season before that he was pretty poor. He was at about his correct level in the bottom division.

I know you weren't directly comparing them as players, but even the effect they had aren't really at the same level.

Van Nistelrooy missing Beckham's crosses? Dunno, I'm not a Man United fan. :)

I really don't think we need Watto back, things aren't that bad.

And he was slower than the average tortoise. We need to move forward, not live in the past.

I wish we'd given Watto a contract, it was useful having a two-footed fullback, and he was an excellant crosser of the ball (even if his free kicks went downhill after BZ left).

Not sure i'd want him ahead of El-Abd though..

I'd second that. Watson was employed as a full back. hewas reasonable in that position in Division Three. He just about coped in Division Two but was hopelessly out of his depth at this level. Milk turns quicker than him.

His crossing used to be good, all the time he had BZ to latch on to but once he went so did Watson's ability.

As an out and out full back he's nowhere near as good as AEA.
