Speaking the morning after the night before he said: "We were aware from intelligence and history that last night's game was going to be a big event for both sets of fans and so, together with the club and British Transport Police we planned the policing operation accordingly.

No shit Sherlock ... you should be a detective!

Treat them like adults and they behave like adults..... was the thrase right???

In hindsight its easy to look at the mistakes that were made. If Palace were kept in for half an hour after the game, wouldn't there just as be much risk of trouble happening when they were finally let out. It's not like all the home fans have gone at this time.

People that go looking for trouble, will normally find trouble.

Bit wierd that the Sussex Police call such a heated affair a "community event".

Anyway, we won which is all that matters I suppose. :lolol:

Myself, and others pointed out that letting Palace out at the same as home fans would lead to problems. The new enlightened generation of football fans said that we were living in the past,'treat fans with respect etc etc'.

Hindsight is not needed to predict the glaringly obvious.

Sent from between Susannah Reid's thighs via Tapadream.

To be honest, it's not like holding away fans back actually stops trouble. When did Falmer station suddenly become clear after just 30mins? All you've done is wound up a load of away fans even further. I see the club have announced the damage inside the stadium was actually minimal. Would there have been less violence had we held them back? Who knows, maybe it would have been, but maybe 2500 p*ssed off away fans having faced a 30min wait and potentially missing trains would have been even more trouble than what expired.

The problem being that half an hour or so after the game a)there's still lots of people about and b) we're rapidly running out of trains to get people back to Brighton
It would have been far more sensible to have played the game at midday on a Saturday or Sunday - pubs wouldn't have been open (or not open so long) so less drunkenness and people could be kept in for an hour or so and still be able to get back. It's also easier to identify dickheads in the daylight rather than pering through the murk of an evening

Not only does Bartlett not know the name of our football club he also reports a cunning plan to insure the event. He probably meant something else.

If this damage was minimal it would have been less than the loss of earnings as the Away End catering was closed down due to Leeds fans behaviour.

Yes there would have been less.
Proven at countless others e.g. ManU vs LFC.
Also, no evening games of this type.

Sussex Police out of touch due to Withdean years; need to learn from the Met, Lancs, etc.

Quite possibly the Amex 'experience' will be diminished by tighter stewarding/policing for the vast majority of well behaved fans because a minority came looking for trouble or can't hold their drink.

Thanks.

Oh and this. There is a reason why millwall/west ham was a midday k/o for example.

Keeping the Palace fans back would have achieved nothing, other then winding them up and no doubt a lot more damage to the south stand.
Having just beat the scum 3-1, after being 1-0 down for 70 minutes I don't think being kept behind would have mattered too much, we were loving it "The AMEX is ours" etc.

However, had we lost, then yes, maybe not such a good idea keeping us behind..

I think we should have done a similar thing to what they did to us all those years ago and have the Police escorting them to another train station miles away and therefore well away from our fans, i suggest they should be walked all the way to Gillingham (especially if its raining and they lost

Totally agree. Although perhaps Seaford as they seem to have taken a liking to it!!
