Way out west
The away stand is called the Hove end, for no better reason than if you go there you end up sitting in Hove.

Nicknames for four sides of the ground:

Wet, Very wet, old gits stand, and the Worthing end.

Parking, is park and ride, exclusion zone exists near the ground. But park and ride is included in the ticket price.

1) WITHDEAN
d How long have you been playing there?
Too long

e Who owns the complex and what was its purpose-built function?
Its owned by a company called DC leisure who own two other sports centres in Brighton, and it was originally used for athletics but AMERICAN football has also been played there.

f How long are you likely to stay at the Withdean for?
When we get permission for falmer and then about 2/3 years to build it

g What are the 4 sides of the ground called (nicknames welcome)?
North, South, East, North East, Argus Stand, Away Stand

h What is the pitch like at the mo`?
Not bad

2) (CLASSIC) OLD GROUND
a Whatever happened to the Goldstone Ground (one of the `quaint landmarks in English soccer` during my formative days)?
Sold of by the ****s running the club at the time

3) PARKING
a Will there be enough parking at the ground?
Park and ride just off the A23 (Follow Signs)
b Otherwise, any tips, please?
You could get away with parking closer aslong as your not showing Colours

4) FODDER
a What is the food/ drink like AT the ground?
Crap, Avoid at all costs

c What is the best pub near/ en route to the ground for footie atmos?
The sportsman which is right next to the ground is away friendly, but it does fill up at about 2ish. Other than that The brewery tap is ok. (10 mins walk down london road.)

d Does any pub at all near the ground serve at-all-reasonable real ale (have rec`d the top tips in town from your local CAMRA)?
Brewery tap again.

Hope it helps.

- Have there been any funny/ dramatic incidents at your current ground?

ANSWER: For drama purposes, you can't beat the second leg of the 2004 Division Two play-off semi-final against Swindon Town. We were 2-1 down on aggregate with literally a few seconds left when a player called Adam Virgo headed an equaliser to force penalties (which we won), to the total horror of the travelling Swindon fans.

- Who owns the complex and what was its purpose-built function?

ANSWER: It's owned by Brighton & Hove City Council, I believe, and was originally intended as an athletics venue (hence the running track).

- How long are you likely to stay at the Withdean for?

ANSWER: Even assuming we get final planning permission for our new ground early next year, I still expect us to have another 4 or 5 years of Withdean to 'look forward to'

- What are the 4 sides of the ground called (nicknames welcome)?

ANSWER: The main two stands are simply known as the North Stand (that's the one with the roof) and the South Stand. Imaginative, aren't we?

- What is the pitch like at the mo`?

ANSWER: The pitch is generally in pretty decent condition, although can get very wet and muddy over the winter months.

- Whatever happened to the Goldstone Ground (one of the 'quaint landmarks in English soccer` during my formative days)?

ANSWER: it was sold out from under our feet by a rather disreputable former Chairman of ours named Bill Archer. These days, it's a Toys R Us (boycotted by many, many Brighton fans, for obvious reasons)

- When did you have to cease playing at the GG?

ANSWER: At the end of the 1996/1997 season.

- Will there be enough parking at the ground?

ANSWER: Parking at the ground is virtually non-existant, and there are restrictions in place to prevent football fans parking in surrounding roads. Best bet is to use the designated park and ride services, either from the city centre or other points (hopefully your club/our club wil provide you with relevant information on these).

- What is the food/ drink like AT the ground?

ANSWER: Not bad, pretty typical football-ground fare really.

Hope that helps

what time should we aim to get to the park & ride for?

Depends if you want to go to the pub before hand.

Ive never used it personally but i would guess 2 at the latest as it would get busy close to the ko.

1) WITHDEAN
a What`s the record attendance at the Withdean?
7,999 versus Southampton
b Any annecdotes/ amusing remarks to share re the Withdean?
We used to have a bloke behind the south stand who set off fireworks when we scored. he stopped when someone got hit by one
c Have there been any funny/ dramatic incidents at your current ground?Adam Virgo scored in the 119th minute against Swindon in the playoffs, to take it to penaltys is the most dramatic
d How long have you been playing there?Since 1999
e Who owns the complex and what was its purpose-built function?Brighton and Hove city council. Its a top site for athletics
f How long are you likely to stay at the Withdean for?Forever! Hopefully no more than 4 seasons
g What are the 4 sides of the ground called (nicknames welcome)?North stand is covered, the south stand has around 4,000 seats, there are three stands at the eastern end of the ground (ones the family stand) and the away fans aare behind the western goal in Hove
h What is the pitch like at the mo`?In good shape. the first couple of seasons at withdean the pitch was in a terrible state and we had some games called off
2) (CLASSIC) OLD GROUND
a Whatever happened to the Goldstone Ground (one of the `quaint landmarks in English soccer` during my formative days)?A long story, but was sold by our former owners to developers. they profited from the sale, leaving the club in a state close to death
b When did you have to cease playing at the GG?1997
c What was so special/ unique about the GG?It was our home for nearly 100 years, we created a superb atmosphere and it was simply our home
3) PARKING
a Will there be enough parking at the ground? :lolol:
b Otherwise, any tips, please? There are two park and ride sites, Preston Park station is in walking distance and the 5 and 5a stop by the ground. Local travel is free with your match ticket
4) FODDER
a What is the food/ drink like AT the ground?Poor and expensive
b Can you recommend a chippy near the ground- and which is the best in town?Cant think of any near the ground, but there is in centre Brighton/seafront
c What is the best pub near/ en route to the ground for footie atmos? The sportsman behind the north stand, The brewery Tap, Preston Park hotel and Crown and Anchor. The last three are on Preston Road
d Does any pub at all near the ground serve at-all-reasonable real ale (have rec`d the top tips in town from your local CAMRA)?:Best bet is the pubs near Brighton station e.g Evening star
