I've come back home.
I have amended the original post to include the advtanges and disadvantages. It makes it very difficult to read, and very long, but I think it's kind of important!

Thankyou i completely missed the North Laine entrance (missing out that grim tunnel) on 1b...so now its either 1b or 3 now.

1b pushes taxis too far away from the station. 2 and 3 push most buses too far away from the station.

I go for 1a.

Is 1b showing a link/tunnel from the concourse to Franklin Rd? There are some red arrows pointing to the rank. If so then the proposed taxi rank is only very marginally further away than it currently is.

What isn't clear is what the effect of using Frederick Place for taxis would be on taxi journey times. Is it intended that taxis would set down passengers in Frederick Place, as well as picking folk up there?

I have just noticed there will be a link from the current taxi rank area to Fredrick Place.

I presume they will pull up at the rear of the rank and set down passengers? I think this is how it currently works with the rank in its current location.

Seems sensible to me to have the taxis queuing up Frederick Place seeing as the street fulfils little purpose otherwise. Therefore I'd go with 1b, which still keeps the bus station

Eh?! It's the only route from new England / trafalgar street to queens road- seven dials.

Appreciate the effort but as long as the 0715 leaves on time, I probably won't worry too much

I go for 1a.

Currently passengers arriving from the station and wishing to walk down Queens Road find themselves marooned at a confusing junction where traffic can come at you from unexpected directions and where the signals take an eternity to turn green for pedestrians. This leads to people crossing before the green man appears out of frustration. It's a dangerous, disconcerting and unwelcoming experience. Option 1a looks like it retains this aspect which is why I don't like it.

Fredrick Place should be utilized far more than it is currently. As should Trafalgar Street.

The ONLY thing they need to do is paint the wall of that pub (I forget it's name) when you walk out as it's the FIRST impression of Brighton people get. (It's annoyed me for YEARS)

As someone who works on Queens Rd about 100m from the station, I'm really pleased that they are planning to do something about the current mess. It's 1b for me - getting the taxis out of the way & onto Frederick Place will make a massive difference. It's not a huge difference onto the journey up towards 7 dials (better than moving the whole rank to the north side of the station), particularly with the expected improvements to the junctions and general traffic flow in the area. A direct exit from the SE corner of the station down onto Frederick Place/Trafalgar Street (or straight into the Prince Albert!) makes total sense...

Does anyone know the likely timeframe for improvements? What with the old casino finally torn down and the hotel on it's way, the area is already on the up so these station developments should make a real difference...

1b or 2b for me, the current taxi rank is rubbish and constantly overcrowded with impatient taxi drivers honking their horns. They really need to find a way of widening the pavement along most of Queens Road, it's a pain in the arse as it stands.

Option 3 which moves the taxis out into the current bus area and moves the buses down Queens Rd. This makes the most sense to me.

this is what I'd go for, the only real downside to me is there will be TONS of extra people standing around on Queens road making it hard to walk past the bus area

Ridiculous idea, it's bad enough at the moment when inconsiderate taxi drivers block the station entrance at peak times, by moving them to the current bus area they will be queueing back up Terminus Road towards Seven Dials and the traffic will be at a standstill.

Any council that wants to support sustainable transport can only consider NOT moving/removing bus stops and/or NOT reducing the frequency or number of buses there and promote combined train and bus travel.

Therefore the only sensible option is to leave the bus stops where they are and move the taxi's to Frederick Place.

Option 1b is the best of the bunch , Options 2 and 3 are disasters waiting to happen to commuters , tourists and visitors. Why the need to over pedestrianise the area ?
