REMF will be taking part in the 2011 Brighton Marathon. We are looking for as many runners as possible to register for General Entry and run on behalf of REMF, collecting sponsorship money from friends, families and work colleagues. REMF will also have a limited number of special Charity Places which will be made available to runners who agree to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship.

Next year’s Brighton Marathon will take place on Sunday 10th April 2011.

General Entry will be launched on Monday 10th May 2010 at 10am. There are 10,000 general entries to fill and 5,000 charity places will become available from Monday 24 May.

The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund hopes to be allocated a limited number of the charity entries, but this will only be confirmed after 20 May.

This event will be an opportunity for REMF to raise a significant amount of money to help us continue with our activites. We would like as many REMF supporters as possible to get involved - either as runners or by helping us on the day.

At this stage, we are appealing to anyone who is thinking about running on behalf of REMF to register for General Entry places and, if successful, let us know that you have a place. The marathon organisers are hoping to fill all General Entry places by 24 May - so don't delay. REGISTER SOON.

If you are successful with your General Entry application and wish to run to raise money for REMF, please let us know by e-mailing us at the following address:-

marathon@remf.org.uk

We will then get in touch with you to explain how your run can help us to support disadvantaged children around the world to play football. We will also let you know how REMF will be supporting you in preparing for the run and raising sponsorship money.

REMF Charity Entries

We will announce the arrangements for applying for one of the limited REMF Charity Entries as soon as we know what they are.

How to register for General Entry

Details of how to register for a General Entry will appear on the Brighton Marathon website shortly.

Get ready for next Brighton Marathon

By Ruth Lumley »

Registration for next year's Brighton Marathon will open on Monday.

Race organisers had set a provisional date for tomorrow but moved it back a few days while they dealt with paperwork.

The race will take place on Sunday April 10, just a week before the Virgin London Marathon.

The number of entries has been increased by 25%, from 12,000 to 15,000 and people will be able to register on the Brighton Marathon website from 10am.

Race director Tim Hutchings said: “This year with more than 80,000 spectators pouring onto the city streets in glorious weather, we really had the Gods smiling on us.

“It was a magical sight for everyone involved in the race and the event really pulled the city together.

“As a hosting city of this size, Brighton and Hove has set new standards for this type of event and next year it will be bigger and better still, putting both this wonderful seaside backdrop and the event itself even more firmly on the map.”

Spaces for next year's marathon are expected to be snapped up in record time after the success of this year's marathon.

Up to 10,000 of the highly-prized places will be on offer on a first come first served basis and the £45 price of a standard entry will remain unchanged from last year.

The strategy for selling the 5,000 charity places is being finalised and will be announced shortly.

will you be setting up a justgiving.com website as it will make fund raising much easier
There will certainly be online-giving pages. The marathon organisers are suggesting using everydayhero.co.uk - like this:-

Everyday Hero: Brighton Marathon 2010

But justgiving.com served us well for organising sponsorship during REMF9.

REMF's immediate next step is to sort out the Charity Places (which become available to the charities tomorrow morning). We (and our runners) will report back on sponsorship arrangements once we've had a chance to catch our breath.

Nearly half of Brighton marathon places snapped up

3:10pm Tuesday 11th May 2010
By Tim Ridgway

One person every five seconds signed up to the 2011 Brighton Marathon as organisers pledged to make the event “bigger and better”.

Last night about 4,000 people were expected to have already signed up to the April 10 race, just hours after the official Brighton Dome launch at 10am yesterday.

Speaking at the Brighton Dome, organisers promised a review of the course and pledged to create a “marathon weekend”, with a pre-race exhibition and post-race parties.

They also hoped to double the amount of money raised for charity from £3 million to £6 million and ensure there was more on-course entertainment throughout the race.

Race director Tim Hutchings said they were still surprised at how quickly the event had “developed” as the official website crashed for almost an hour due to demand.

He added that at one point there were 13 people every minute signing up for the 10,000 individual places – more than one person every five seconds.

Applications for the 5,000 charity places are expected to start to be accepted either today or tomorrow.

Mr Hutchings added: “I have been a little surprised by how everything has developed since we launched the event last June.

“What makes this marathon so special is the support of the people of Brighton and Hove.”

Mr Hutchings said he was hopeful of getting Brighton-DJ Norman Cook to take part in some way of the “marathon weekend”.

Race organisers have already hired out the Brighton Centre for the Saturday and Sunday and hope more runners will stay in the city for the whole weekend.

Ann Norman, mayor of Brighton and Hove, who completed this year’s race in about eight hours, was one of the first to sign up for the event.

Mayor Norman said she hoped to inspire people to take part, adding: “With a little more training I hope to beat last year’s time.”

Council leader Mary Mears, who helped launch the event, said: “This year’s marathon was the most amazing event.

“I’m sure the residents of the city will come out in their thousands to support it again next year.”
