Boris Johnson slags off Portsmouth

Why do people like Boris Johnson so much (btw, I like him as well). He waffles, comes across as a bit of a fool/upper class twit (which he's not - I believe he's very smart), yet somehow sems to say the things that a lot of normal working class people relate to.
Possibly because he doesn't say what he thinks he should say, but says what he thinks ?

Top bloke.

Actually - parts of Southsea are fantastic. And if you have not been to the Still & West and sat and watched comings and goings to the entrance to the harbour - then you should. It was a Gales pub so I assume it is now serving London Pride.

It is a fantastic location.

The only decent thing about Portsmouth is that my daughter and her family live there. Going down tomorrow to see them.

This is the t-shirt I had made for my grandson (sorry about the quality)

Didn't they used to have a sign up boasting that Portsmouth was home to the largest council estate in Europe?

Some boast. It was probably the same council estate where that screeching harridan launched the campaign against "pederfiles", when all the locals marched through the city demanding that the "pedos" (sic) were moved out.

And on to someone else's estate, presumably...

They were trying to whip up a bit of a frenzy about this on BBC South Today tonight.

Shame really as the only people in the entire BBC South region likely to be offended are in Portsmouth itself, viewers from Sussex, Dorset, Berkshire and the rest of Hampshire will completely agree with old Boris.

I did see they wheeled out some huffy local councillor to protest, citing the Spinnaker Tower as an example of the city's new-found fabulousness. Except building the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth is a bit like placing a shiny bow on top of a dog turd. From a distance it looks very pretty, but get close enough and the overall picture is something you really wouldn't want to set foot in.

Can you imagine him as PM meeting other world leaders? :clap2:

He would eat Bush for breakfast.

So to speak.

After college in the very early 80s I worked for a bank/finance company, and found myself parachuted into Dog Shit City on a semi permanent secondment.

Southsea where I lived was ok , but I had had to go debt collecting in Leigh Park (aka "The Largest Council Estate in Europe" ) for the aforementioned finance company once a week, and in between door knocking payment delinquents who hadnt paid for their electric shower that month, and repossing knackered Ford Escorts from driveways, I found the place a highly depressing shithole.

And I think on this occaison Boris, as usual, has got it just about right.

Boris is one of these rare politicians in modern times who is honest and speaks his mind. therefor there wont be a glittering political career for him.

That is the reserve of liars, shysters and theives.

I lived in Southsea for 6 months last year. To be fair Gunwharf Quays are fantastic and they have worked wonders around there. They have some lovely pubs by the waterside between Southsea and Central Portsmouth. Fratton et al are diabolical, but then no city is perfect.

The planners that built Portsmouth City centre must have been on drugs. It an extremely bizarre construction!

The Luftwaffe helped also in 1940-41.
I was born there and have Portsmouth blood in me, none of my relations are retarded either.
Like you say all cities have dodgy areas, you could find a few in Brighton and Hove.
