Booing your team

didn't boo yesterday, pretty sure i never had, but i certainly refused to clap at the full time whistle. Refuse to spend any more money on that until something changes, one of the worst performances given the money we've spent for a long long time. We could have played on until midnight and not come close to scoring, because in truth we didn't. Coventry had numerous chances, numerous shots on goal from decent positions, in 90 minutes the only half decent chance we created was a cms 1 on 1, which any decent keeper would have closed down because of the angle he was at when running onto the ball.
It was very, very poor. The back four are asking for bookings, hands on shirts every time the ball comes up to them, wrestling players to the floor, and again el abd and greer pusing it close to getting sent off when marking jutkiveitz (sp?). The way we played yesterday won't imo work against anyone, and until its proved wrong away from home i don't feel like wasting any more money on it. Those there yesterday would know just how frustrating it was, passing side to side at the back, numerous times putting ourselves in danger and even a few times passing it to opposition players around are own box due to mistakes. Ankergren should have claimed the cross for the second goal. Harley's 'set peice specialist' role is a load of tosh, not one set piece cleared the first man or the wall, one free kick hitting the wall so gently it led to the breakaway for the first goal. Until 75 minutes in, every time we got in a decent crossing position we checked back and passed to our full backs. Coventry were far more direct and it worked, they created chances.

As ray wilkins said, possesion football is fine, as long as it's with a purpose. We're playing with no purpose whatsoever, and teams in this league are being given enough time to organise themselves whenever we get the ball. Oh, and don't even get me started on a midfield of harley, navarro and sparrow, no creativity, not direct, no pace, and no fight in any of them yesterday.

People pay a lot of money to go to football. When we are being beaten by the worst team in the division people will boo, thats life. You will never stop them and I am not so sure they should be stopped. Everybody was behind the team at the start of the game. Dont think I would partake myself though.

Never will I boo my team, I do understand that people do though. Football costs a lot of money these days, and with the recession we could all find other things to spend our money on. But I don't see that booing will help anyone. If you were at work and someone was booing at you, would that make you work better, or give you an attitude and say f*** you? On the other hand, apart from withdrawing your support, there probably isn't many other ways to show your displeasure at crap performances. so I don't know.

As a fan, if by supporting the team I can make 0.01% positive difference then I will do it, every match, for as long as it takes. You only have to look at the Burnley match to realise that.

I was as f***ed off as anyone yesterday, it was an insipid performance, but I won't have a go at the players DURING the match by calling them as it doesn't help.

Tomorrow we are down to the bare bones, I'll be getting through another box of Strepsils if I have to, as we are up against it. Support the team during the game, if Harley (or anyone else) plays a poor ball then don't get on his back, it won't make him a better player, it will merely make them more likely to play the 'safe' ball the next time, the one that is less likely to do damage.

If we are shit against Wrexham then by all means give them a bit more stick, but tomorrow, be the twelfth man, we know it can work...........if WE put in the effort.

I don't feel comfortable booing anything other than a pantomime or pro wrestling show.

Having said that, I'm not sure a player who can't handle a vague and indirect booing from fans after a bad performance will be able to handle a rollicking from their manager at half time for the same reason, so don't see them lasting in football. If aggressively letting a player or group of players know what they are doing is not good enough doesn't work, why is Ferguson celebrated for his hairdryer treatment?

We do see teams get booed off at half time come out and turn the game around. This idea that it will always be counter-productive is clearly wrong.

But, I don't think people boo because they have sat down and worked out the pros and cons, tallied up which players need that kick up the backside to gee them up v how many may go into their shells if booed at before deciding whether they boo the team or not. It is an emotional reaction. Fans are invested in the team and their fortunes, and when things don't go their way, they will let their emotions get the better of them. Of course, some fans are more pessimistic and some are more free with their emotions and so will boo sooner or for lesser things than some others, but it is still an emotional response.

Why do fans get criticised for that? So often we criticise refs and the FAs for booking players for celebrating a big goal or foul language because football is supposed to be an emotional, passionate game, and if we penalise the players we might as well get robots to play. Why doesn't this extend to fans? Why are we demanding our fans suppress their emotions, just because they don't fall in line with the most optimistic/biased of fans?

losing to a team bottom of the league with out a fight is pathetic and deserves booing

It happens far more than you think (not just to the Albion) Southampton were beaten by Bristol City who were in the relegation zone before their 3 points. The teams at the bottom are far more likely to start fighting for their lives now Christmas is gone. We were bottom of the table in 2005 when we beat Palace at Selhurst, Orient beat Charlton yesterday. It's one of the facts of football that underdogs very often win. That isn't said to excuse lazy play or ducking out of tackles but I didn't see that yesterday. I saw players out of position who were trying to cope with a team who wanted it more (not necessarily the same as not turning up)
I wouldn't boo my team as I feel the same way as Jack Straw. I didn't clap them off the field as I would do normally so registered my disapproval of the result in that way.

Does this mean that you are no longer Sir RANTSALOT, but now are Sir BOOZALOT (although seeing the likes of the Cardinal and Piers at matches recently you may struggle to steal their crowns).

I feel the same, yesterday we were missing Vincelot, Barnes, Calderon, Painter, Vicente (who?), Bridcutt, Hoskins, and had (surprisingly) Buckley and KLL on the bench. I don't think we are contenders in this division, but with that portion of the team missing we are going to struggle.

At least you did not have a 25 minute walk back to the car yesterday along a TOWPATH in the pitch dark.

I'd look in life to only boo a Tory minister or an excessive booer of the team i love. Any booer should expect to be told to shut up when they go into one.

I notice now there really are two outstanding turds on this board.

Why does that make people turds. I have spent shitloads last three away games and have been "rewarded" with f*** ALL. In fact having been to EVERY away game this year its been shit after shit (Aug and Derby excepted)

I have not booed yet but carry on like this and i reserve the right having paid my money.

If they aint putting a shift in they deserve it. ALL of them. I dont mind losing to better teams but i do expect effort and better performances. Make no mistale cov were SHIT and we lost miserably.

You pay your money to watch a game of football. There are no guarantees that you are going to see a win for your team, surprisingly. It's all about expectations and I didn't think we were going to get anything yesterday, so my expectations weren't high. I went to give support much good that it did them. If you feel so strongly that you are wasting your money, then don't go and spend it elsewhere. I'm sure you know that, though.

I have no issue with any supporter booing at the final whistle if they're not happy. During a game is wrong IMHO. We have all been told to try harder at some point in our lives and I do not see why footballers should be any different.

I do like a good boooooooooooooooooooooooo as well

I have NO issue with anyone booing the team at the end of the match, what I don't understand is the very personal level of abuse given to some players DURING the game. I don't mean 'f***ing hell Paynter' or similar as he lumbers aimlessly across the turf, but it is clear (and I don't include you in this list) that some fans WANT some players to fail simply because it proves them right in their assessment of said player, rather than see the Albion win.

In 62 years supporting Albion, never have done and never will. These are good times compared to some of the things we have as real FANS endured, try coping with finishing 93 in the football league 2 seasons running for a start. True fans help pick their side up, not kick them when they are down.

I understand what you're saying, but please understand how i therefore have the right, having paid my money, to boo the booers. In my mind, booing now means you, or more regular booers, have done little but that for the past 20 years or more.
It's a shame you feel you didn't get your moneys worth, but it's probably best to get a grip and relish what we're going through with all its ups and downs rather than join the dimwitted moan-brigade who offer virtually nothing but a wish to wind up.
Of course, it's up to you and i hope to gus you get what you want more, as long as that thing is not to play hoofball and give up what we started.
