Over here its skater or skanger - depending on wheter they're closer to jeans/combats or shiney white Umbro knacker-trackers, though. Flip flops is exceedingly gay, or religion teacher.

Personally I file them with blokes in white trousers and men in 3/4 length trousers as very gay :safeway

They are bent. They're 'in' fashion as of two summers ago, it's taken this long for it to go mainstream and by next year they'll be gay again. People wearing flip flops are the same people who last year, went out and bought loads of pink polo tops and shirts.

they are the unofficial national dress down under. Although they confusingly call them 'thongs' here - which has got embarrasing.

Anyway, not gay. ALthough some aussies insist on wearing them all year round, complimented by a scarf and beanie.
