Perhaps the best comedy of all time.

Series 2,3 and 4 were brilliant, but probably IMO 4 just edges it. what makes each series so good is that they're so brilliantly researched.

There are just too many highlights and classic one liners. The episodes where they introduced Rik Mayal in as Captain Flashhart in series 2 and 4 were brilliant.

and of course the end line in 4,

Who would notice another madman round here

Brings tears to my eyes every time

There was talk recently of a fifth series. Rowan Akinson said he'll do it if Richard Curtis & Ben Elton wrote it. I know he's doing another Bean Movie next year so hopefully it may happen after that.

Melchett from Series 4

And win the greatest victory since the winchester flower arrangers beat harrow by 12 sore bottoms to 1.

Blackadder Tell me have you ever visited the planet earth sir?

Or Flasheart from Series 4

Always treat your kite like you treat your woman.

George: What take her out to meet your mother?

Flasheart: No. Get inside her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back

Or where flasheart says you just need a navigator who knows his arse from his elbow. Then about 5 mins later Baldrick is introduced as his navigator and says its no good sitting round on our elbows all day...

Or the series 3 episode with the Actors

too many moments

BrightonBloke I posted a poll to see which Blackadder was everyone's favourite a couple of years ago. You may wish to post a new one!

(Blackadder is my favourite BTW, over OFAH and Fawlty Towers - it was even my username for a while).

Wherever The Mood Takes Me
BlackAdder Goes Forth, General Hospital

George: (motions Edmund to come closer, then speaks softly) What I really want

to know is, are you any closer to finding the spy?

Edmund: Yes, I think I'm getting there, George. (looks across, calls)

Everything all right, Smith?

Smith: (Baldrick is in bed with him, reading a Punch magazine) Oh, ja,

excellent, excellent.

Edmund: Jolly good. (leaves)

George: Smithy, you haven't seen any suspicious characters hanging around,

have you, who might be German spies?

Smith: Nein.

George: (bewildered) Nine?! Well, the cap's got his work cut out, then.

Remember seeing the 'Bob' episode when it was first on TV and never laughed so much in my life.

Blackadder: I have a problem with my manservant
Doctor: Well get it out and we'll have a look at it

Flasheart: Nursey, is this a canoe in my pocket or am I just pleased to see you.

For me it was Blackadder II, followed by 4 and 3. I can't even watch the first series, as Edmond would say... "It's utter bollocks!"

For me the best episode was Money from Series 2, and the best line, is from the lasdt episode (series 4) when Blackadder just comes of the phone to Field Marshall Hage, just after having his cunning plan for getting out of going over the top foiled, an all time clasic line the way it was delivered...
"I think the phrase rhymes with 'clucking bell'":lolol:

:clap2: also, captain darling saying 'put an entry in my diary, simply says...bugger'

Blackadder 2 was superb, followed closely by 4, then 3 and forget 1 not funny.

Too many gems to remember but the counting and "some beans" was pure genious.

As was the prostitute at the docks.

From Blackadder II (my favorite) Money:

Mollie: Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?

Edmund: Oh very well, but I think you're making a terrible mistake. Baldrick, I'm delighted to introduce you to ... I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name.

Mollie: Mollie!

Edmund: Of course, Mollie. Baldrick, this is Mollie, a dear friend of mine.

Mollie: I'm not dear. I'm very reasonable actually, Baldrick. Most girls would charge an extra sixpence for all the horrible things he wants to do.

Edmund: Alright, alright. Baldrick, this is Mollie, an inexpensive prostitute. Mollie, this is Baldrick, a pointless peasant. Now let me get some sleep.

We own 2, 3, and 4 on DVD here. Beloved of the kids (14 and 16) as well as the elderly parents.

I think the last episode of 4, when the boys go over the top, is about the most affecting bit of television I can remember. The sheer bloody futiltity of it all, so that 'General Haig can move his drinks cabinet six inches closer to Berlin'.

During Our Wee George's Excellent Iraq Adventure in 2003, I had General Sir Anthony Hogmany Melchett's immortal "If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through" as a sig line everywhere.

I don't suppose there's a tradition of that episode (Goodbyeee) being shown each November 11, or anything? One could do worse....
