I heard that that was part of the reason behind Knight/Jarrett/McCammons departure - they all hung around together at training and didn't socialise with any of the other players. Knight was seen as the 'ring leader', and McGhee felt he was having a bad effect on the likes of CKR.

The fact that a day after i heard that a friend of mine said he'd heard the same suggests there is some truth in it

I wouldnt say that there cliques as such but some of the younger lot hang out together cos they all live near each other, but f you were to see them out on a 'team bonding evening' you would find Butters with the likes of Hammond and El Abd showing them they way!

You see it every day, black people imitating american rappers with the clothes they wear and trying to speak like them, even though the only thing they have in common with them is the colour of their skin. Judging by someone I know close to he club, there's still some casual racism around the Albion. He was shocked to hear some very racist comments from people who should have known better. Maybe I'd hang out with people I felt safe with in work situations if that was around me.
