BHA Massive Away Support

With half the teams in league 1 having played 7 & the other half 8 away league games so far this season, the away following of each club is listed below. Please note that these figures have not been audited! Some of the away announced figures are difficult to find - however as at 4th November 2010, these are the best that I have been able to gather.

There are going to be anomalies where a club has had a local derby & squeewhiffed their average ie Bournemouth at Southampton & Huddersfield at Sheff W.

Wednesday- 1,868
Huddersfield- 1,720
Southampton- 1,694
Brighton- 1,393
Bournemouth- 959
Plymouth- 861
Charlton- 779
Exeter- 697
Swindon- 668
Oldham- 660
Carlisle- 648
Leyton Orient- 589
Bristol Rovers- 553
Peterborough- 539
Notts County- 509
Brentford- 473
MK Dons- 438
Dagenham- 409
Colchester- 369
Rochdale- 350
Tranmere- 262
Yeovil- 242
Walsall- 218
Hartlepool- 211

Plenty to discuss here.

Don't forget that teams that've visited us will be squeewiffed, as you put it, in the other direction. Am surprised some such as orient are so high.

Sounds about right for MK Dons. Considering we are right at the bottom of the country that is a good average.
MK Dons are more central so its far easier to get to these other grounds.

That would make a good quiz question - which football league club is closest to the geographic centre of England?

I don't know the answer BTW, I'd hazard a guess at Leicester but Mr Google hasn't thrown any light on it.

Don't forget, every club fiddles the books against the amount of away supporters we get.

Farthest from the sea is Coventry isn't..?

Actually this may not technically be the answer to your question..

Just done a bit of digging and the geographic centre of England is Lindley Hall Farm, near Nuneaton. It looks to be about midway between Leicester and Coventry so there's probably going to be little in it (unless Nuneaton gets into the League).

EDIT: Just looked and the Ricoh is 11 miles from LHF and the Walkers is 19 miles - so Coventry it is.

That has so satisfied the inner geek in me.

In a pile of football shirts
(unless Nuneaton gets into the League).

That would be nice, another team in the stripes in the league

By the seaside in West Somerset
Hartlepool is a long way from anywhere

Peterboro "massage" figures

Huddersfield and Wednesday play more (relatively) local games than most

SCC are deluded in thinking they are still a "big" club

Fairly meaningless list, that. Like Plymouth, Carlisle's away support has always impressed me. Carlisle's nearest game this season is the 150 mile round trip to Hartlepool, and it was on a Tuesday night and they took over 2,000 apparently.
