Cook the egg for a few minutes until the white is hard. Then put a small glass lid over the egg and watch the yolk cloud over. Remove from heat when it is cooked to your satisfaction. No need to use any implements.

Wow.

How the hell do you get a fire risk from frying an egg!!!

The same way you get any fire while using the range lil. Some chefs in restaurants actually ignore or encourage frying-pan fires because they have a huge hood over the range and a kitchen that is safe for such practises. For them it's just a 'flash in the pan'

If you have an electric range you probably will not get a fire in the pan.

IF you ever got a fat-frying fire, do NOT panic, and do NOT use water to extinguish it - as it can spray scalding fat all over you!
Turn off the gas. Get a sheet of foil, a large-enough lid, or some other means of blanketting the fire, and cover it - to remove the oxygen from it.

If you use a decent non-stick frying pan you don't need any oil either so you can have healthy fried eggs. Who'd have thought it eh?
