Town vs Town for me. It's more of an occasion travelling to the opposing town, somewhere you'd probably try and steer clear of normally, and taking it over. Strolling through the streets knowing you're on enemy turf. Can't imagine it would be the same when you're just wandering along the same streets and meeting in the same places as usual.
Then again Stoke vs Fail combines the best of both worlds for me. It's technically an inter-city derby but Stoke is really 6 towns stuck together so it feels like a town vs town game.
I wouldn't say the Sheffield rivalry has faded. The two teams didn't play each other for years in the 70's and 80's but they still bloody hated each other and continue to do so now.
I'd agree with the Nottingham clubs lack of rivalry. Most Forest fans don't give a shit about County but County fans are obsessed with Forest.
