A strikers main job is to score goals. Which is the most important part of football. It does not matter how well you play building up or off the ball or in the air, if you don't score you don't win. Simple.

Therefore, Our best striker, Has to be the top scorer, step forward Ashley Barnes

I voted Barnes. I think he has the most potential. Certainly has a goal-sniffer's instinctive positional sense. And you can't argue with the goals tally. Just needs to sharpen up the chances to goals put away ratio.

Murray was very good today and currently he isn't far our best striker but we have to sign someone better to play alongside him or we will miss out on the top two as a result.

There was mention on here of Bradley Wright-Philips and Gus said 1 was in the bag and 2nd was dependant on the first signing so perhaps. He has scored 12 so far this season for a struggling side and seems to benefit from the service given by Craig Noone as in todays game he scored twice from 2 Noone assists. Perhaps he is the answer.

Actual goals, yes, barnes has most (by one, having played over almost 1.5 games more than Murray).

But goals/appearance? Barnes is on 0.32 goals per appearance behind both Wood (0.33) and Sandaza
Goal frequency? Barns is one one goal every 251 mins, again, Wood (a goal every 247 mins) and Sandaza (a goal every 87 mins)
What about playing your part in a goal scoring unit? As a team we have scored 30 with Murray on the pitch, more than we have with Barnes (29).

There is a flaw in basing a strikers worth simply on the number of goals scored.

For me, each of our strikers have either not played enough to settle into the team, and thus it's too soon to judge them (Wood, Sandaza) or have been too inconsistent either in end product or/and overall contribution to stand out as best (Wood, Murray).

That list doesn't really inspire when we're talking about goal scorers.

Really? So you dont take into any consideration the amount of Penalties Muzza wins throughtout the season??? Murray IS the best striker at the club without question and the poll backs this up.

If you don't play well, have good build up or play off the ball, you don't score. Simple. You need good players to do those things otherwise your supposed goalscorer is just a lonely bloke in a field. Murray's a cut above any other striker we have, clearly, but we need someone else too because none of the others are that great.
