Best pub quizzes in Brighton & Hove

Continuing the theme of rating local boozers I'm interested to know of recommended pub quizzes from fellow NSC'ers.

I've always enjoyed a good mannered friendly pub quiz and with a fairly decent record accompanied by my preferred selection of seasoned teammates I feel the time is right for me to show other people how it's done.

I remember once getting wildly irate at losing a quiz in the Western Front after the quizmasters themselves got the answer to a question wrong and despite my protestations including PROOF that I was right they refused to take my answer and awarded the prize to another team instead.

They has asked who had written the song I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself which had recently been covered by The White Stripes. I correctly identified that it was, of course, Mr Burt Bacharach but they had the answer as Dusty Springfield who wasn't even the first person to cover it. As a result I shall NEVER go back there for quiz times.

More recently I tried the quiz at the Fountain Head on North Road but this was fiendishly difficult and nobody got even 50% right so I decided against going there again also.

I know that Hector's House does a music quiz as I once wandered in during the middle of it without realising and ended up helping out a team who were sat at the table with the only spare seat I could find but again this was a pretty full on difficult specialist quiz and aside from that it's not really a great pub.

So over to you good people of NSC, where is a good drinking hole to flex your knowledge and as a side question to you have any good pub quiz tales to share?

i personally like the one at the ancient mariner in poet's corner

the woman (yes- WOMAN) who does it is well charismatic and it's generally a good quiz

we did the one at the thomas kemp one for a while but it's too clique-y with too many "in jokes" for the people that run it and a small and quite annoying bunch of their mates which is a shame cos it could be good

also quite like the one at the fiddlers elbow

Never finished a pub quiz, I always get too minging and lose interest when the sarnies come out, and I'm a general knowledge aficionado

Chars. I fear the Ancient Mariner is a little too far for me to venture to on a regular basis but the Thomas Kemp being practically next door would have been perfect. It's a shame it doesn't get the Tommy boy seal of approval but from what you say I wouldn't enjoy it.

What day is the Fiddler's Elbow quiz?

I have only been part of one quiz - Cricketer‎s (Sussex cricket ground)

I only know of one friends currently enter - the Station (Hove)

The first was over a year ago, and was good.
The second, I hear is good.

tuesday for the fiddlers

re:- thomas kemp- it also doesn't help that the quizmaster seems to change each week so it can be good some weeks and awful the next depending on the 'master'

it's also not guaranteed that it's on each week as they seem to have a "not sure if there's enough people" kind of attitude.....

there is one bloke who unfortunately only rarely runs it (i think he works there) who is very good however......not sure what his name is but he's got shaven hair and is generally a decent bloke...the few times that he's done it its been very good, but every other person who's done it has been appallingly bad

Thursday night in The Station at Preston Park is getting so popular you need to get there early to get a table. Its bloody tough, but better because of that.

You might want to try Tuesday night at the Hanover on Queens Park Road. Dark Star for the boys, a wide selection of lagers for the girls and a quiz master unafraid of the odd controversial comments. Just make sure you beat those bastards in the "One F in Falmer" Team.

Music round biased towards club goers in their 30s, you have been warned.

I drink up their quite a bit, the guy you are referring to runs the place I think quite young mid 20's I'd say and yes he is a really nice bloke. Always wears shorts too!
