Many to choose from but my personal favourite:

Hawkwind: Space Ritual

It frightened me to death when I heard it as a spotty 15 year old over 30 years ago - a dystopian future landscape described via pre-Ramones 3 chord thrashes at maximum volume, combined with the whooshes and howls of tortured primitive synthesisers and, erm, poetry......

A Sonic Attack indeed, although I believe chemical substances need to be ingested to get the full-on 1972 vibe.....

I don't have that many albums that were recorded anywhere near a live audience, but The Who - Live at Leeds ranks inside my top ten of all time, closely followed by Hendrix at the Isle of Wight...love the bit right at the beginning where he plays a few chords of the National Anthem.

Live & Dangerous- Thin Lizzy at their finest!

Others worth a mention:

Iron Maiden- Live After Death & Rock in Rio
AC/DC- If you want Blood
Metallica- S&M Live with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra
U2- Under A Blood Red Sky
G3 - Satriani, Vai & Johnson

Never heard a decent live album yet. In my life. Ever.

(At least nobody's yet been crap enough to suggest 'Frampton Comes Alive')

Seen a couple of cracking live Oasis DVDs tho. Does that count?

Lots of good suggestions in this thread but I'm there with a vote for Space Ritual. One of only a couple of albums that I still listen to as often as I ever did over 30 year after hearing them for the first time.

But can I put in a good word for UFO - Strangers in the Night

and give another mention to No Sleep 'til Hammersmith, worth it for Overkill alone
