in response to essbee's thread, was just wondering how popular this drink is. i'm only a wee whippersnapper but i would drink ale over lager any time. having said that, if it's a choice between tetley's and carling i would struggle. but if you have to make the choice, which would it be?

In a choice of which one to cook with I assume ..

I'd vote

Guinners
Ale
Larger

but the weather and situation are MAJOR factors in my choice !!!

Ale nine times out of ten. Faced with a choice between London Pride or Harveys and Stella... no contest. If it was horrible creamflow muck like John Smith's v lovely bottled European exoticness like Budvar, I'd take the Budvar.

I hear that !!! A HOT summers day can demand the need for a bottle of Magners over ice...however, I'm not an ale man. Lager all day, every day for me, starting with an ice cool San Miguel please bartender sir  :drink:

I'm normally an ale man , but I have been known to quaff a pint or two of Stella on a hot Summer's day.

Cider. But not Magners. Anything but f***ing Magners.

Aspell Premier Cru, Weston's Organic, Henney's. Hell, I'd even take a Blackthorn over that bloody Magners pisswater.

Prefer Ale over Lager, but get bored of Ale quicker when on a night out. Also if your on a pub crawl drinking lager is easier.

My local rarely has ale on tap, so end up drinking cider or lager.

Preferences, in order (usually)

Ale - real, not that creamflow muck
Lager - draught, usual preference Staropramen or Belgian
Lager - bottled
Red wine
White wine
Shot (e.g. Tuaca)
Brandy
Cider - at a push
Lager - nasty (e.g. Carling, Fosters)

I would never touch creamflow ale, Magners other spirits or alcopops.

It's odd. For years I was a confirmed ale drinker, but now I don't touch the stuff and drink only lager. I discovered purely by chance that I would get drunk on just about equivalent amounts of either drink, but with ale, 9 times out of 10 I would have a bit of a  but with lager I don't.

Tetley's and the like don't count as ale any more than Carling or Harp qualify as lager and the modern trend of drinking cider over ice is so that you can't actually taste how shitty it is.

The choice is quality ale (London Pride will do nicely) before quality stout (Guiness or Guiness) before quality lager (has to be Stella)......

........then try the bottled stuff if you must but leave the cans alone whatever you do - they are all pretty much shit in comparison to draught
