backing up dvd films

what is the best software at the moment for a straight dvd film backup?

Why would you need to back up a DVD ? As long as you're not using the disc as a drinks coaster, it should be fine.

Or are you making ILLEGAL copies ?

i use DVD2one it works fine for me ideal when you have kids saves ruining new films you buy them

They do wear out if you freeze frame certain parts of the disc on a regular basis, such as the salami scene in Backdoor Nun Action 7.

I sometimes backup my DVDs using bittorrent.

used dvdshrink, have used that years ago.
stuck it onto hard-drive and burnt it onto disc using nero.
copied it back at 4x but has come out all bitty.

is nero not good enough or speed too quick?
