Realistically how many of our 23000 seats are we gonna fill?

can't ever see it being more than half full untill we reach the premier league. we can go on about the 30k we took to cardiff but out of the 9 people in my minibus for 6 of them it was their first albion game.

yeah i reckon 10,000 + away fans if we drop down to div 2/3 (the sprite easyjet division 7 or whatever it is)

15,000 if we stay in div 1 ( the cadburys dairy milk league)

and sell out every game in the premiership

Depends what league we're in like you say.

If we're in Div 1 (like now) I'd say about 15,000 - 18,000
although for the first season it will be higher due to the novelty.

Div 2 then it will drop to araound 10,000 - 12,000

If we got to the Prem we could fill a 30,000 stadium easily. Look at Scumhampton. They get 30,000. When they finaly get relegated see how many they get. Bit like Pompey aswell. Or Even Palarse.

u mean IF we get to Falmer a yes isnt a Falmer will happen the finance etc must be there and on the clubs record look at the balls up with Zamora sale and where are these extra seats?

yes did play team performance and lack investmnet in players will have its toll of attendances if in div 1 i say average around 8000 to 12000 for ther bigger games, shave about 10 to 20% off for a lower league status

id like to think there would be at least 15,000 in there each week maybe more.

More people will go with decent facilities, better players will come, it all snowballs.

It might take a little while to get all those people back though who got disalussioned over the last 5 years or so.

Home support 8 - 10,000 + away support for the first season then? Big cup games against Arsenal, Man U Newcastle etc nearly full. Remember The Goldstone NEVER sold out once during our time in Div 1 when crowds were generally higher.

I agree about our attendances in Div 1 but some crowds from our away games in the first season

Man u 52641
Liverpool 42747
Arsenal 34400
Norwich 15640
Bolton 13963
Middlesborough 16010

I bet they all get more than that now.

Admission prices went from 65p in 1976-77 to £1.50 in 1979-80. now I know why I was shocked.

All figures courtesy of Tim Carder.

Bolton
Middlesborough

Have alll either extended their ground or built new ones. Arsenal are going to build a new ground.

How many of those figures quited were Brighton supporters?
How many of those remaining travel to away games ? What is the average away support from the top clubs 4 -5,000 except possibly Man U or Newcastle?

15,000 average in the Championship; full for the big games.

That graph from Perseus doesnt tell the full story. Our attendances have been capped at 6,000/7,000 since 1999, we were playing 75 miles away from 1997 to 1999, the club was being torn apart between 1995 and 1997 and the off-field management was pretty inept from the mid-80s.

And the mere fact of having a new stadium increases attendances.

Albion were in the top flight when the recession really took hold. Attendances were at an all time low at the time. 30% or so lower than today.

I have got the exact figues somewhere. Attendances fluctuate with results so the exact percentage is not that important.

Bolton are currently bemoaning that their ground cannot be enlarged. I think it is probably an excuse to increase their prices.

At he Goldstone, transport and parking reduced attendances when the results were not going our way.

I think Falmer is too small. There is an alternative.

Nice graph Perseus, note how sharply Readings crowds have gone up since they got the Madjedski stadium!

Now this is the kind of post which makes my day, looking forward to Falmer rather than dealing in all the crap around when it might happen.

Here is my guestimate

5,000 hard core supporters
1,000 extra supporters who turn up on the day (last minute thing)
3,500 extra supporters because of the new Stadium
1,000 extra supporters because the extra capacity means that you can take your mate who doesn't really want to go but you convince him that it's worth it.

Up to 5,000 extra supporters depending on where we are in the table and who the visiting team is

So, I see 15,500 as the max unless we got close to the top of the table at the end of the season or if we drew a top 3 premiership club in the cup (in which case, we'd likely break the 20,000 barrier)

I seem to remember in previous discussion on this, someone was saying tickets won't ever be available on the gate at Falmer. They must be bought in advance. They CAN be bought on the day, just not at the ground.

I hope I'm wrong on this. ???
