Sorry to ay this but I watched the two episodes so far last night, albeit in the wrong order, but what a pile of old cack.

Yes, the first series stole lines from The Sweeney, and other programes of the day, but this was simply dreadful. Also the music was not all that. Where was any Maiden, Whitesnake, Motorhead, etc. I have now got the odd bit of New Romantic stuff in my collection, but the New Wave of British heavy metal was huge at the time. Again, no Jam. They were again huge, or for that fact they were going on about the wedding, with no reference to The Specials. Sorry but I for one feel that this was a waste of my licence fee.

One last thing. He would have never had a Quattro. A Granada MKII, but nothing outwardly foreign.

Rant over.

Controversial, given that last week NSC was CREAMING itself over the programme.
Not too impressed from what i've seen so far, but each to their own.

well i enjoyed it, with the shite like pop idol etc all over our screens its a welcome relief to me.
Maybe not as amazing as Life on Mars, but that is a tall order, besides did you love life on mars after 2 episodes ?..needs a bit of time to bed in i would say.

I like las weeks.

Last nights: pondered and wandered. The Drake character is at the mo, weak.

A few good one liners last night, good references to Boy George and it appeared Steve Strange appeared as himself in the club.

Very poor overall, 1/10.

But they did pay homage to Bristol's finest, The Pop Group, without whom we may never have had Pigbag, or Maximum Joy... or the greatest of all NSC legends themselves:

i was only young in the 80s but it just seems all wrong and the 80'sness feels too forced and contrived.

I dont think female detectives walked around looking like a crap 80s pornstars too often with too much make up and off the shoulder tops.

Life on Mars was superb and I reckon they just about got it right with the number of episodes, a bit like Fawlty Towers, superb entertainment but didn't flog it to death. Unfortunately this one is complete pony, I watched the first episode in the hope that it might be good given the hype but was left severely disappointed...it had roughly the same impact and entertainment value as Police Academy 7...yes, for me it was that bad.

The storylines from a police drama point of view are an absolute far fetched load of old rubbish. However Gene Hunt is a brilliant character and Keeley Hawes is very easy on the eye (I wouldn't mind stamping her arse). The cars, costumes, Royal Wedding etc make for some briiliant nostagia. The music isn't bad either. The scripts are witty and the time travel thing makes it a bit more intriguing.

I agree with those that say it is a breath of fresh air from endless soaps, cooking and property shows and celebrity this an that. Just don't analyse it too much.

Best line last night after Gene had refused point blank to arrest one of Alex's suspects

Alex 'You can stamp my arse'
Gene 'I'll get my coat'

I never saw Life On Mars so I can't draw any comparisons but I thought last night's episode was quite good.

Buy it on DVD now! Twas brilliant!

Ashes To Ashes isn't a patch on LOM, it's much more contrived and the one-liners aren't as good. And it's not as historically accurate. But I enjoyed yesterday's episode all the same.

Quite fancy that young WPC, too, WPC Sharon 'Shaz' Granger.

Not the best pic in the world, but there you go...
