I really don't understand this attitude at all. I would rather get good quality fresh food at a reasonable price. If it takes an hour or so more to do my shopping, then fair enough that's the price I'm willing to pay.
And I'm not, thats why I shop at a supermarket. I don't want to spend an extra hour shopping. The half an hour I already spend is too much.
Also, I don't know where you get the bizarre notion that local shops are cheaper. If all you buy is fresh meat and veg then yes it probably would be cheaper but a large proportion of what people buy when shopping is pre-packaged products such as tinned products, bread, milk, cereals, cleaning products, healthcare products etc. which are cheaper at a supermarket.
