Arsenal friendly - what's in it for us

Apols if this is fixtures ....

Official site says we are playing a behind-closed doors vs Arsenal on Tuesday at their training ground

What's in it for us?

a) unlikley to be financial - no gate receipts
b) extra game for us - but someone might get injured = not clever
c) something else ?

I think Dick mentioned it on the phone-in - something to do with giving Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell a game coming back from injury - well hold on a minute - these are defenders and Brighton aren't exactly overloaded with quality strikers to put these two internationals to the sword.

So, here's my theory. Brighton reserves will have (at least) TWO Arsenal strikers playing for us. After the game, McGhee will be asked to take his pick and we will have one, maybe two, on loan for all of April.

April has 6 games for us and all are obviously very crucial. Arsenal are already out of the FA cup and looking very doubtful for league honours - so all they have left to play for this season is Champions League and gaining a place in Europe again next season. I reckon, by the beginning of April they will be more relaxed about letting someone come out on loan. I'm not going to predict any names, but I can't see any other reason why we would agree to play this game if there wasn't something in it for us.

Watch this space ....

After the phone in I am expecting news of a loan striker to follow this friendly. Ideal would be that the striker comes home on the same coach as the rest of our team!

At least twice in the phone-in the topics of our lack of a striker and the Arsenal friendly seemed to be conjoined. I too am hopeful some kind of loan may come out of this. But it's a faint hope.

I was thinking about sarting this very thread this morning. Arsenal will be looking for a hard game so will want us to put out a decent side (If that is possible). There MUST be a loan player in it fir us. With every game left so crucial for us why would we take this on?

Converstion something like this;

Arsen:- "Could you boys do us a favour and help me try out a few of our injured and mentally unstable players please?"

McGhee:- "Sure, but what's in it for us?"

Arsen:- "Use of my porn collection and flasher jacket for the weekend?"

McGhee:- "tempting but I was think more along the lines of Henry on loan for the rest of the season?"

Arsen:- " LOL!! Ok I see where you're coming from. You just want someone to put the ball in the back of the net for you, right?"

McGhee:- "Daaaarn tootin!"

Arsen:- "I'm sure we can come up with something for you from our stock of 30 strikers, all of whom could score 20+ a season in that fizzy pop league!"

McGhee:- "Thanks, XXX"

Arsenal 0 Brighton 4.

In a shock turn around in form (apart from Albion supporters, obviously) Les Rouges were given a bloody good hiding by an understrength Brighton team today.

Arsenal have since signed Federico Turienzo and Chris McPhee for a combined fee of £6.5m,whilst Cec Fabregas and Thierry Henry have moved in the opposite direction.

Henry is quoted as saying that there is more vavavoom in Brighton as a town, and the Brighton manager speaks better French.

I'm hoping this means i have a romantic meal with Ashley Cole. I'll listen to his past and what he wishes for the future. I'd also like him to show me his favourite magic trick. A top-hat full of toads with mystical winks.

Also for notes to be compared on public inquiries re Football Stadiums. Charlie what's his name, the lawyer who represented Famer PC also represents a bunch of Nimbys opposed to Arsenal's new home.

Well, it sounds like we'll be playing them in Mayo's testimonial, so i can cope without seeing this one.

I wonder if we'll find out result/scorers quickly though

Well I work in London, and I just bumped into Sol Campbell. He'd walked out on the game at half time when we were 1-0 up. He said he'd give his mate Ashley Cole a ring on his mobile later to get the full time score.
