seemly the deal for the millwall bloke is off due to the "financial constraints" of the current climate.

What has happened to the savings on the players that have had to retire, ie Peircy and Rodger?...

Presumably saving up to pay for the extra enquiry costs when FDC present Pende as their chosen site

I think also they were given golden handshakes some of these players, i.e. paid up their existing contracts.

I don't think we'll see the extra cash become available until after the enquiry AND the live and kicking fund.

Has Mr Horton entered a team...he is brilliant in not answering direct questions and mischiefmaking could be his specialised subject.:salute:

If it is true that we 'paid up their contracts' I would be extremely suprised as the only one whom I consider to be eligible would have been Simon Rodgers as he was under contract. I know that John Piercey was also but he was offered a 3 month contract and he/his agent turned it down and wanted a 1 year one which the club gave him. When he retired he stated that he had been considering it for over 3 months which means that he was considering it when he signed the renewed contract and me not being a lawyer thinks they have grounds for not paying him as he obtained the contract under false pretences.

Blackwell was out of contract at the time of his injury and was only being paid due to DK kindness.

Am I wrong?

Has anyone approached a brewery (Dark star?) about brewing an Albion beer for the Alive and Kicking fund?

20p out of the pint could go to the cause? I'm sure people would pay the extra 20p a pint for a good cause. It would become an essential ingredient of the pre-match ritual.

It could even be bottled for away games!

just a thought...

One thing that's massively in our favour at the moment is the superb team morale. Everyone comments on it - Steve Claridge being the latest. This is largely due to the players we have, but is also down to the good relationship between the players and management. If we now start trying to short-change the players when they hit hard times then I can't think of anything that will destroy this relationship (and morale) quicker. When that goes we can start looking at certain relegation.

BG, I'm surprised at your attitude to this subject. As someone who runs a business I would have thought you'd be only too aware of the need for good employee relations.

If Piercy didn't hide his illness (which as far as I'm aware he didn't) then the club offered him a new contract with full knowledge of the facts. Therefore it's the clubs responsibilty. The only way you could blame Piercy in any way would be if you could prove that he witheld his illness to get the contract. Which he didn't.

For once in my life I'm sort of hoping that Man U will win tonight so that the Arsenal youth may then be available

at the moment my view is the midfield have been our problem.
they are not pushing into the boxs and there passing has been woefull at times

John Peircy had a contract until the end of the season so we would of had to have come to some arrangement over his.

Simon Rodger & Dean Blackwell were on weekly deals to prove their fitness so we wouldn't have had to pay them off, but I bet we did give them something as a thank you.

I think that is down to McGhee rather than the midfield though. All season we've been lacking a striker that can hold the ball up to allow the midfield to get involved. As soon as we find one (Claridge) McGhee chaged the system. Even playing him up front on his own at HOME!!

If we had Knight and Claridge up front in a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 I believe the midfield would be able to get involved with the attack more. I'd like to see Chippy hovering just outside the box to drill home any loose balls!

the club knew about his illness as he was out with it last season as well, may be not the seriousness of the condition but then don't players have to have a medical.
also we paid blackwell all last season even though he injured his leg out of contract that is the way the club operate and this approach may costly at times and in some peoples eyes wrong must go a long way to help with morale amongst the players as they know they will get looked after.
which imo is a good thing regardless of the cost?.

:clap2:

And a great example of this was Charlie's financial support for John Piercy. when it became clear he was going to be forced in retirement.

You reap what you sow. :)
