He was born 70 years ago this year, so what, he died in 1977 so its not his 70th Birthday.

When he died about 10 of his records where re-released and none made the top 40 (except for Way Down which got to number one but was released before his death and was not a re-release)

Now 18 (I think) of his songs are being re-released one week at a time. Is it because the music around at the moment is so crap (except one record of course) that he can easily get to number 1 or has it just been a money making sucess for his estate because hype is so much more important in 2005 than it was in 1977.

And how come he's able to claim the 1,000th number one when its an exact re-release of an earlier song.

And given that it only takes 20,000 or so to make the Number One slot, there's enough Elvis fans and collectors out there to make this inevitable. The charts could finally die a death if this farce goes on for the next four months.

It a shame the Manics missed out on number one yesterday because of some dead overrated peice of crap.

Elvis has got to go down as the most overrated artist ever!

(Expects to be shot down!)

What is needed is for Frank Sinatra records to be re-issued to oust this new 'Elvis' upstart and bring him down to size.

Let's never forget one of Elvis's biggest wishes in his life though;
that he could sing like Roy Orbison.

And Roy? He wishes he could've seen The Albion get a stadium in Falmer .
Kind-of brings everything into perspective really.

Yesterdays singles top ten..

Elvis - One night
Manics - Empty Souls
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Steve Pop Twat - Against All Odds
Rooster - Staring at the Sun
Soul Central feat Kathy Brown - Strings of Life
Darius - Think Twice
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Uniting Nations - Out of Touch
Elvis - Jailhouse Rock

Albums...

Hot Fuss - Killlers
Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
American Idiot - Green Day
Kasabian - Kasabian
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Songs About Jane - Maroon 5
Hopes and Fears - Keane
Encore - Eminem
Who Killed The Zutons - The Zutons
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2

Very interest by the album top ten there, with the exception of Kasabian who havebeen marketed into the charts by NME it is full of artists who seem to be there on the strength of their music (yes, even KEANE). Nice to see a chart without any PAP in it.

Never understood the old Sinatra thing, just seemed like a mafia-friendly arrogant prick with a voice you could find on Pop Idol.
