top post above, but we do know that investers are waiting in the wings, but knight wont allow it:nono:

Utter bollocks. No one in their right mind would invest in the Albion. The money put in by the likes of DK, Chapman and the Blooms will not be recovered, it is a legacy/gift to the club because they are supporters, not investors.

The club has not made a profit for years, and this will not change even when Falmer arrives, as the breakeven attendance, based on a league 1 wage structure, is 12,000.

People need a reality check, we have poor facilities that do not attract the casual fan, an albatross around our neck in the form of LDC and their snidey minions, and therefore need to get used to bumping around the lower leagues for a good few years.

There is only one thing worse than watching the Albion at present, and that is reading the fuckwitted crap that is posted on NSC.

I am off for a Brazilian, BYE.

hold your nerve have been here and much worst before we will turn around its a very young squad this group of players were great at youth level and will be great at senior level just need a while and a few of the old hands to steady the ship give it time this season is far from over we will not go down its rebuilding year but agree with the post regarding Falmer with out that the club has no long term future we must stop infighting get behind dean and the lads turn this season around towards Falmer:p

I see this young squad being ruined by too much responsibilities and too much football.
Some will make the grade, Lynch, Cox maybe Rents but others like Gatting have shown nothing so far to say they will make it.

Including Fraser.Done sod all so far.Rents had his best game yesterday

All roads lead back to Falmer and the stadium whether you like that 'excuse' or not.

Point is when DK wrote out a business plan back in 1999 on our return to Withdean he acted on the assumption that we would probably be playing there about 4-5 years down the line and probably accounted for the fact that cash would have to be spent on one public inquiry.

What he probably didn't account for was the attritional divide and rule tactics of LDC. As the wait has gone on longer the money has got scarcer and scarcer some of which os probably sitting in account on the off chance that a loss at the High Court may result in the club paying out costs to LDC.

What happens off the pitch will affect the playing side of the club. Until 2002 the lower leagues were awash with ondigital money and that stopped abruptly during a season and almost put a couple of clubs out of business overnight. Whilst we were not reliant as much upon it, the dissappearance of it would have certainly affected the clubs finances.

To add to that was the costs of the second public inquiry and the consequent high court actions by LDC. Cullip and Currie were sold to make up the shortfalls and once you start selling players to cover costs the brain should surely tell you there isn't much left swilling around any transfer kitty. And if that kitty is empty you can be guarenteed that the wage structure is going to be pretty tight too. Consequently good players in their prime are no longer affordable, meaning acquisitions are usually the untried young, injury prone and old heads who have seen better days. On top of that the long battle with LDC means that the promise of playing your future in a nice shiny state of the art stadium is minimal. It becomes far more difficult to sell the club to players who only see the portacabin changing rooms and ad hoc stands when they come to play against us at Withdean.

As the team Adams built has come to the end of its life it has become difficult to replace the various parts of it; the leadership of Cullip and Oatway; the striking skills of Zamora; and the general never say die team ethic. Coppell really only patched things up, found a striker who initially seemed to be an ideal replacement for Zamora and added a few astute loans. McGhee got one last promotion out of them but was forced to sell the best players in the side to keep the club afloat and it was a failure to replace these that have led us back to where we are.

Until Falmer is sorted we are restricted by Withdean and the antics of the LDC which are tying much needed cash we need up. Less cash lessens the ability to attract decent experienced managers and coaches who in turn are not able to attract the players they want. Both Adams and Coppell spoke about a limit where they could take the club operating under its current restrictions and jumped ship when they felt they had reached them. McGhee tried to stay longer but the whole situation just undermined and eroded both his actions and the team.

We got lucky for a few years surfed the wave of success and now we as supporters are going to have to take the rough times coming up until Falmer is ready to go.
Excellent post.

Such a tragedy that there are so many shallow-minded rejectionists who can't - or won't - acknowledge it, or indeed don't have the wit to recognise it.

Just adding my thanks to Theatre of Trees posting the most sensible thing on here for months.

The people living in a fantasy world are those who think there are quick and easy solutions to our situation.

And for all the banging on about needing a striker, can we get a centre half first. In case anyone hadn't noticed it is dumb defending costing us this season not a lack of goals.

You would think Wilkins would be able to sort that one quickly- him being defensively minded and all that

Didnt I read somewhere , may have been the accounts, that a lot of this money has been repaid to the lenders?

We have to hope that come the Jan transfer window, Deano will have worked some magic to attract players to come here

That still wouldn't account for why DK would sack MM though, as surely he should be more understanding - down to the (supposed) fact that Dick forced him to take that stick from the fans?

Perhaps it's that MM was incapable of turning any profit from CKR, LK, or Albert?

I would go along with that, However does the board need to look at the fact that if the club is in League 2 the need for a new ground is a lot less, Look atr Darlington

Yes, we need a new ground whatever league we are in. We stay at Withdean, we will end up in the Conference, the directors won't keep subsidising the lousy revenues we get from Withdean, maybe this past year or so is the first sign of that really biting.

If someone offered me Brighton's next home game at Falmer stadium but the condition was we are in League 2, I would bite their hands off - because we would get back in no time with the optimism, corporate revenues and supporter enthusiasm a new stadium would generate.
