Anyone here worked in the Police?

I'm thinking that PC Beard did. =)

Just trying to get some kind of career back together to get myself sorted out and some money flowing back into my bank, and the Police is one such option. Just wondered if people here who have/had served in the Police had anything to say about their time? PM me if there's anything that you dont want to say in public, but I'd be interested to hear a bit about what it's like.

And I'd rather the anti-police crew didn't start ranting on about fascism and what not.

Cheers!

Dave-you are perfect Police material.
1 of my mates are in the force now, been for a total of 2 years and they both said its brilliant. The money is actually quite good. With overtime my mate is on average £24,000 which is not bad. Loads of prospects and opportunities. He is taking a degree in criminology and hoping to go MI6 within a couple of years. Before they joined I would have said its an ok job but the pay is nothing to write home about but now I'd encourage any mate who is thinking about signing up. He also said that without being a thicko, most offices should be able to progress quite quickly.

Try asking Seegullible as he's a copper aswell

Ah Benji. It's been a while, mon amigo.

It's not really a last resort, as such. I was doing pretty well at IBM until I decided I couldn't be arsed with the office life after 5 years of enduring mindnumbing tedium, so I headed off to the Army. Since I left there for reasons already explained, I figured that I'd need to get a job - so worked at Comet over Xmas (Yes, at the Goldstone. Boo. Heathen, etc). Now that my time there has come to a close, I'm applying for IT jobs all around Mid-Sussex but had no joy as of yet.

Police was something I thought about a while ago. It pays very well at it's most entry level position (£19k) which would be enough to get me back into my flat and able to live on my own without a flatmate. It's quite a varied job, especially when you can go on to specialise further down the line.

So it's not really a last resort, but it makes a lot of sense at this current time. Especially if I can work in Burgess Hill police station, which is 2 mins away from my flat.

As much fun as it would be, I dont really want a doss. I'd rather actually earn some money so I can move back into my flat and carve out some kind of career once more. And maybe I'll get to work at Falmer on matchdays. Hrm.

Although, the High Fidelity thing looks pretty easy. You'd need to pay me a hefty salary though.

Dont listen to the pot head Dave.
Join thr force and get yourself in at Brighton. At B.H you will have to do security watch at the Old age home whereas in Brighton you can twat drunks and nick the tenants extra. Can give you my mates number if you like if youve got questions.

I wouldnt describe joining the police as a last resort either

Don't forget that unfortunate side effect that soon your social circle will consist only of other Police Officers. With the odd exception everyone i've known who has become a Policeman soon retreats into a little clique.

I say go for it, Razi. I haven't been in the police but have worked in areas associated with the police (just to say I am not in Holloway currently:lolol: ). Its a good job and one in which you can progress with the right attitude. Good luck to you.

Word of advice- allow yourself approximately 4 months to fill in their very lengthy application form though, and another 6 for them to get their house in order and reply.....

Yeah, I've already filled in most of the application form - I'm onto the essay style questions now... 4 or 5 questions, and about 700 words required for each one. I've heard that it tends to take about 3 months between applying and starting training. Struggling to think up occasions where I've experienced "differences with other people based on their lifestyle, culture or background" and then state how we managed to overcome our differences, etc etc. Ugh.

Well, if you've talked to Palarse fans without being ill or twatting them...

Picture the scene:

PC Razi patrolling outside the road outside the house of Leader of Falmer District Council on Matchday

"Excuse me Officer, would you mind very much if I defecated in this driveway"

"I certainly do young man. I cannot allow such dreadful behaviour"

"But Officer, this is the house of the man who tried (in vain) to stop our plans for a Community Stadium"

"In that case, I'll join you"

Go for it mate :clap2:

My mate's a copper in Brighton and he loves it, despite numerous cases of dealing with drunks and tramps who have shat themselves. He does get to work at the Albion on most matchdays, tho.
