I am intrigued by your 'rules'.

My rules are to start with a word that has not appeared before, selecting a word with letters that are statistically more frequently present in English words than other letters like X and Q, then follow on with words not containing letters already found to be wrong, avoiding words with letters repeated until left with no option.

I have made a 'mistake' on only a couple of occasions, yet my average is very low among the list of daily players, and I have had several 7 point fails.

Am I doing something obviously wrong?
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong. I use the same starter word every go and try to eliminate vowels and / or “S”.

I also avoid repeating a letter till later on

Thanks Harry for posting this.

I am also intrigued, not only by @Guinness Boy but by a number of players who refer to rules.

I don’t really have any other than same starter word, waiting for a second ‘hole-in-one’, I do sometimes deviate, one occasion to great effect, another couple to my detriment.

I try to use all the vowels by attempt #2, other than that guesswork

When I refer to my 'rules', they are really guidelines based on the same starter word, using vowels and other statistically likely letters and avoiding past answers. But like the rules about ex Ministers taking jobs relating to their previous portfolios, they are flexibly applied.

This is also my approach except I sometimes consult a list of previous correct answers to avoid wasting an attempt - this assumes no Wordle solution is repeated which I have read anecdotally but not had confirmed.

I check every guess against what has gone before

Don't forget Cup rules apply on Wednesday, which can lead to a large swing in scores, but I suggest those scoring 4 may not benefit in the way they did versus Crawley!

Dunno about rules, sometimes I find it helps if you knew fewer words!

I agree - I often guess the word without realising there were 3 or 4 other options! I have no rules either. I spend literally less than 4 minutes on Wordle, often less than 2, choosing the first random word that comes into my head and banging out the subsequent lines. I usually do it just before I fall asleep at night, or when I wake up in the morning if I can remember to do it. I cbb to check dictionaries, thesauruses or use any aids, nor do I keep a note of what words have already come up previously as some people do - nor do I put pen to paper - For me all the excitement is in the luck of the first word and the next line - so I would get bored very quickly if I put too much thought into it. As it is, I struggle to remember to do it frequently. I do believe it is a good cognitive exercise for me, especially being a brain fog sufferer so I do try and remember to do it if I can.

However, for the past few years, I do sometimes binge play Wordleunlimited on my phone while i am watching a film or something which has helped me significantly - is really great practice and trains your brain to very quickly see possible 5 letter words in endings and beginnings as well as grouping letters into common language/phonetical pairings.
