There is no ticket machine etc, so you can get a permit to travel for as little as 10p. Providing no-one checks your ticket on the train and makes you pay full fare you can get away with it. That's how I did Brentford return for 10p. I was just lucky not to have any ticket inspectors on the Saturday service.

I tried to buy a ticket at Hove and the internet on their computers crashed. I then tried to buy one on the train and the man did not know how to use his machine. I couldn't find the conductor on the next train so I gave up.
