Anybody else 'uncomfortable' with Bank adverts?

Before this 'credit crunch' malarkey like most people I was pretty neutral about bank and insurance company adverts. Obviously the ones for the Halifax irritated the hell out of me, but the others just washed over me without leaving an impression.

Now however I find I'm watching them with the same "oh my god" feeling I get when I see a car crash. Despite the current financial situation they're STILL telling us how strong they are, how safe they are, how big they are, how long they've been going and how much expertise they have - and we now know it's all a load of rubbish. I think they should be saving their money to pay back their investors, not wasting it on trying to sucker more people in.

Honestly, for me it's like watching Gary Glitter advertising a babysitting service.

Their websites are worse. You pop in to see if there's any news at all about whether you have any money left, and for all their Customer Charters about openness and honesty and customer care there's not a thing about the current situation.

I appreciate that the economic climate is changing almost by the second, but a generic message acknowledging that there is at least something going on wouldn't hurt surely?

Presumably they are just desperate to prevent people from wanting to act on what the recesses of my mind are telling me to do, which is take my money out and hide it under my pillow.

What do you expect them to say ? They can hardly put up a message saying "don't worry, all is well, carry on banking as normal" - easy grounds for a law suit later on. Neither can they say "oo-er it's all going tits-up don't do anything". I'm not surprised they say nothing if they have nothing concrete to broadcast.

I find the best way to avoid the problem is just to not have much money in the first place, then you don't have to worry about losing it.

But that in effect is what they are saying. The grinning twat is still telling us that 'Halifax gives you Xtra' - but aren't they the bank (HBOS) that's been so badly run that it's being taken over by Lloyds TSB? I think some acknowledgement of reality wouldn't go amiss.

They have to carry on day-to-day business, they may be not lending so much, but it hasn't come to a standstill (yet !). Not that I like the ads though, I would never bank with Halifax just because of the "Howard" ads.

what else are they going to do? Marketing always soars when times are tough.

We all know banks are bullshit, you just have to find the pile of bullshit that doesn't smell so bad and dive in.

Eevn worse are the property porn shows being rerun during daytime TV. I was 'working from home' the other day, and it's like car crash telly to watch these reruns of 'Location Location Location', 'Property Ladder', 'Homes Under the Hammer' from a couple of years back.

Alll these clueless cocks running round buying pits to 'develop' for 'profit', funding it all on credit cards and the unswerving belief there's no way they can fail to make easy easy money.

Bear in mind that, very importantly, from now on, WE ALL own those banks - well, kind-of, in part at least. So I'd like them to stop pissing away my money on silly ads please.
