Pawnstars is wicked. Hardcore porn and constant sport... I am a first class couch potato now.. i use to go to the gym 3 times a week for years, now i just cant be arsed to go. Just want to rush home and watch TV lol.

Hardcore pawn just doesn't do it for me! I am a Swamp Men and Axe Men fan though!

If you don't already, get some good routines re eating etc, watch what you eat near bed time, and when you go to bed don't think about anything. Don't think about Brighton, work, life - just try and breath in and out slowly, and don't worry how many hours you're doing it for.

This, have a regular eating routine and exercise 60 minutes daily, walk, jog, cycle. There's nothing like a good swim to make you feel utterly knackered and ready for bed.

I find a warm bath also puts me to sleep.

what I dont understand is how your body wakes up later in the day even without sleep. So you feel awake when its time to sleep.

Vulture,
Several things you should do:
1. Exercise as much as you can - even a very swift walk so your body is tired will do the trick. Even stretching (have you tried yoga?) before bed will help.
2. Dont watch tv or go on the internet for the last 2 hours. This will make your brain active and make it harder to switch off. Read a book instead.
3. Don't eat at all in the period before going to bed. If you've eaten, your body will be digesting food and blood will be racing to your stomach. This will keep you up.
4. Go to the doctors.
5. Don't worry about not getting sleep - as soon as u start worrying about sleeping, you wont sleep. Keep telling yourself that u can cope on zero sleep.
6. Practice sleep inducing thought exercises in bed as last resort - search for these online.

Go back and see your doctor again. There's a load of good advice on this thread already (even the knuckle shuffling) but your physiology is unique and therefore all the advice may be irrelevant TO YOU. Do not let your GP brush you off - if you are having problems sleeping coupled with the sickness then you have a medical problem and it needs fixing.
Do it pal.

somewhere in Eastbourne
before we moved from Wales I used to go days without sleep(one time over a week) it was basically stress as when we moved down here to Eastbourne I sometimes go to bed at 10pm (when there nothing worth watching on the TV) and the Mrs has to sometimes wake me at 7am
go back to the Doc mate
hope it gets sorted

went to doctors today she said I was suffering from stress because I cant sleep and my new job is making it worse. She told me not to sleep during the day and sleep tonight if I can....got food poisioning as well!!! Its shocking how much a lack of sleep can affect your life......

That sounds crap mate. I hope things get better soon. Try and relax, a couple of whiskies and have a hot bath and just relax and chill. Eat well and try and go for a brisk walk everyday for 30 minutes. Walking is very good and helps you think more clearly. Don't get down and keep battling on.

Just moved into a student house on viaduct road and am having trouble sleeping. Seems like there's always police/fire/ambulance cars going past, guess i'm just going to have to get use to it

It sounds as if you do not have too long to live.

This had me laughing out loud! But seriously I have sleep issues, usually it's because I am thinking too much.
There is some good advise here but I would also return to the Doctor. Surprised no one has mentioned counting sheep!

I used to worry about not sleeping, which of course kept me awake. Just lying down relaxing is as good as sleep, keep that in your mind and hopefully you'll relax enough to sleep.

I had similar problems years ago, really got me down. Then I discovered a guy called Glenn Harrold, a self-help hypnotherapist. No, he's not Californian, he's a really down-to-earth London guy, and he's done a range of CDs to help a variety of common problems, insomnia being one.

Check out his reviews on Amazon. Basically, he'll help you to calm down that awful mental churning that prevents good natural sleep. I couldn't believe the effect it had on me, improved my mood, general health, optimism, and I slept like a baby once again. Give it a go mate.

Listening to music set at a really low volume works for me.

(Personally, Steely Dan's 'Can't Buy A Thrill' is my insomnia cure. Great album).
