Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial, not viral, infections and the misuse of antibiotics by GPs, largely in the "treatment" of viral infections, is the major cause in the development of antibiotic resistance (eg MRSA).
Still, maybe they'll make a better fist of managing 80% of the NHS budget - I wonder which module of a medical degree covers this?
