I think the experience with the Argentinians last season taught Gus a lot about the potential problems of bringing raw talented South American players over. Nice lads, decent players, were given opportunities, but it didn't quite happen - or was never going to happen fast enough?

Totally agree Lush, however these are probably a step or two further down the line than Baz and Batti, on the plus side apparantly their wages, even by Portugueses standards are shockingly low.

I'm going to bump this with a question.

Gus was talking about another 5 or 6 players. Gus and the players are back from Portugal today. We clearly need some cover in certain areas, and strengthening on others.

Does anyone have any info about possible targets this week?
Humberto Suazo, now that Copa America is over it's all systems go.

I hope so, this why I partly hope we don't sign any more midfielders - I think Smith and Caskey deserve a chance.
Although five subs makes it even harder for them, the more I think about that the more it annoys me.

The likes of those two, Agdestein etc will do well to even get on the bench.

the most enduring and credible rumours are Bolo Zenden from Sunderland as a wing/central attacking midfield option and Ben Turner from Coventryas an experienced central defender. I think Zenden has a chance of happening as he is looking for a club after leaving Sunderland and based on Gus' maybe needing someone with experience and an old head to help the youngsters through.

Less sure about Turner. Coventry need the money but would we really splash serious cash on short term cover? I think that ideally Gus would be looking for a loan deal for centre back but also wouldn't be surprised if Dunk runs out against Doncaster.

We failed to sign Garvan which indicates that Gus is after that attacking midfielder and having failed once I would still expect us to cover this position with a permanent deal if we can. If there is another permanent signing beyond that I think it is more likely to be a striker with the rumour still strong that we are actively planning to beat our transfer record.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we signed one more player this week and another next.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a few go out on loan

There were several players in all 3 teams who looked very good, but you have to think who we were playing, we can hardly cherry pick from PSG, Spurs reserves will have their own complications i.e. spurs may see them as future stars etc. A lot of the Olhanense players are young lads that are brought over from Brazil and are grateful for the chance to play at a decent standard, even if Gus did like what he saw, their may be passport issues until they have played in Europe for a few years.

Andros Townsend was quite impressive for Spurs XI against us...

I think Gus sees Navarro doing what Kish did last season.
Wheter that is right or not I'm not convinced.
