Anti-virus

Can these be downloaded free from the internet and if so can anyone reccomend any?

Usually buy from PC world but figured whats the point spending 50 quid on an annual subscription if i can get it for free.

Are there any cons with this online anti-virus alternative??

Fair cop!! It is the site to download MS anti virus. Used to use AVG but have been using MS security essentials since it came out and found it fine.

Avast or Avira, both better than AVG but frankly for the sake on my PC I'm happy to PAY for security. I use Bullguard. I would avoid both Norton and McAfee as I know from a lot of experience they are not very good.

Took a mate to help him buy a laptop. Salesman tried to sell him Norton for £29 or so.

A friend whos a computer wizard recommends Avast uses it at work and has never had any problems.
