"Dont bet on it, Mags is a legend and dont forget that we voted for her in our millions. You cant argue with 3 landslides"
Quoted by shingle.

FOLLOWED subsequently by three Labour landslides.
Thatcher ultimately hastened the demise of the modern Tory party as an election winning organisation, and has consigned it to the backwaters of modern day political life.

No we didn't. She never got in with more than 44% of the vote. It's just that the opposition at the time were seen as hopelessly ineffective.

I won't be shedding any tears when she snuffs it.

Ted Heath was very moderate and I liked him. He was a good politician but suffered in part because he wasn't media savvy and had a bad image - a bit like Neil Kinnock.

I've fixed my post for Pav! Still, 44% is still not an overall majority...

Christ, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story!

The figures show that the Tories under Thatcher routinely polled 40-44%. And in terms of landslides she did nothing to compare with Blair in 1997.

On balance I think she did a good job for the first couple of terms but then lost the plot in term 3.

Ted Heath has died-now Maggie should do the decent thing and join him.

No disrespect Ted-you were actually not bad for a tory.

He was as much a Tory, as Blair is a Socialist! :lolol:

What always made me wonder about Ted Heath is that nobody ever sugeested he was gay even though he as about the only batchellor Prime Miniter in history. Not a bad bloke as politicians go though.

Thatcher will always be a contentious issue. Some will say she did well as she stopped the unions dictating how the country was run, others will say she was a facist bitch who put hundreds of thousands out of work.

Very true re 1997 pav,

but thatch had overall majorities of 144 in 83 and 100 in 87 and in anyones book thats a landslide.

didnt the tories start changing the boundaries of constituencies in order to help them maintain majorities in the late 80's ?

I met Ted Heath in a resataurant outside Salisbury about 5 years ago, RIP to the right honourable gentleman

I will definitely celebrate when Thatcher carks it though . . . . and the icing onb the cake would be for the Daily Mail to shut down on the same day, now that would be a good knees up :lolol:
