Amsterdam hotels?

Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap hotel in Amsterdam? We want to be fairly close to Dam Square and the Red Light District and would normally stay in the Botel (free Porn on the TV!) but this is booked up.

Any suggestions?

Cant remember where we stayed but it was quite cheep and it was 5 mins from hard rock cafe

the botel is excellent, about 5 mins to the station, 5mins to the city centre (bars red light district etc.) and has a reasnabally priced 24 hour bar on it

oh and free porn on channel 32

Botel is tops location wise, basic but great value. Add free porn and it's a winner all the way.

I stayed here when I last went. The only thing is your not right bang in the middle of the red light district, so ideal if going with a partner. Its near the Van Gogh museum, but is a nice place.

Maybe not ideal if on a lads weekend or stag do.

Thats were i stayed when i went with some mates, they were very happy to accomodate us and we got a free drink in the bar every night!

The only problem is the staircase aint safe after a few bevvys!

Cheers - will suggest it as a possible -very decent rates. Will be 5 lads on a weekend of filth so will have a look at other locations closer to sleaze.

Its only 5 mins from the stn on the No. 16 tram i think and there are plenty of bars, cafes and such that are for lads weekends.

Stayed in Amsterdam for a weekend a few years ago, don't remember the name of the hotel but you can see it when you come out of the main railway station. Look across the bridge, diagonally to the left, the hotel has three red "X's" lit up at the front, it was convenient for the city centre, can't remember much else about it as I don't think any of us slept very much or were particularly sober either.

At the low end of the market Hans Brinker was alright when I stayed there (but that was 1989)

Found a good website and have gone for this one close to the station. http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/prinshendrik/#rooms - not too pricey and apparently also has free porn.

The Botel is shit - characterless and expensive.

The only two you want are The Flying Pig and The Bulldog. Both cheap, both brilliant - The Bulldog being exceptionally so.
