All sorts going on in Preston Park

Just been for my lunchtime stroll around the park and saw 3 ambulances, a police car and a helicopter in the north west corner. It looked like someone was being loaded into the helicopter on a stretcher, fairly serious I would guess.

It's been quite a week down there what with the bus crash, the missing kid and now this.

Maybe the Green Party have jinxed the park with its new parking restrictions.

Indeed, even weirder I saw a bloke getting a parking ticket and not kicking up a fuss, very odd.

What's this about a bus crash?

There was a crash....involving a bus.

Ok. Sorry. Monday evening a bus failed to stop at the crossing on Preston Road and hit the back of a car. A couple of other vehicles were involved and the road was shut off for a good while. Quite nasty.

Would somebody who lives near Preston Park describe themselves as living in the Preston Park area? Or is it Preston? I've heard both.

I always refer to it as Preston Park as an area. Never heard it as just Preston. What BN1 riffraff have you been hanging out with?

Looks like the talks between Vicente and Gus didn't go well then………..

That would make sense, I thought you'd be the man for that question. I think PP is an area that needs clearer definition. It strikes me as the forgotten man of Brighton and Hove zones/boroughs/whatever you want to call them. I also think its boundaries are a little murky and it's too easy to lump some of its parts in with neighbouring areas.

Depends how you want to define yourself. I had a friend who couldn't bring herself to say she was from Whitehawk; she told everyone she lived in 'East Brighton'. Similarly, Tiddles lives near Preston Park Station, but will tell you he lives in central Brighton.

Preston Park is a Brighton & Hove City Council ward which extends west to Dyke Road, north only as far as Preston Drove, south to New England Road, and east to Ditchling Road, with a north east spur going up as far as Varndean School, so that doesn't really help.

I'd say - as a rough guide - the 'Preston Park area' goes as far west as about a three or four streets west of the Brighton-London railway line, as far north as Preston Village (though the locals might say 'Preston' instead), as far south at the Brighton-Lewes line and as far east as about three or four streets up running off Stanford Avenue / Preston Drove. Just my opinion, like.
