Started before 76,1973 friendly kick it off! seagulls started as piss take credited to lee phillips in a book but i always recall myself starting the chant, the mists of time and all that???

Rev, you have got it wrong again. Its not often I respond to posts but I have to put things right. The rivalry kicked off big in 1974, not really before that date (sorry no pics), there were scuffles all over the place, sometimes Brighton running Palarse and sometimes vice-versa. As for the chant of SEAGULLS, this started Christmas 1975 in the Bosun pub in West Street, Brighton. I was having a fair few drinks with friends when the discussion about Palarse came up. We wanted a chant to rival the eagle chant that Palarse sing. We all admitted their chant was very loud and encouraged the crowd and their players (oh how I hate that bit) and we mooted various names that we could chant as well. Jeff Walls said (you must remember the amount of beer we had) `what do you call the birds down the seafront` I think I said prossies. Lee Phillips chanted S-E-A-G-U-L-L-S, S-E-A-G-U-L-L-S and we all joined the chant, and withing seconds most of the Bosun joined in as well. Happy days. Glad the fighting bit is over these days (or mostly).:thumbsup:

That is my recollection of events. Prior to then our arch rivals were Portsmouth and going back to the 50s Millwall. I remember one occasion probably mid to late 70s when there was a ruck at Elm Park when we were locked in and a burger shed was turned over may even have been early 80s, time just flies by now but I am sure somebody will remember it accurately.

Early 80's I think, as i remember the incident we were held in and there was a police horse also just inside the closed gate by our exit. Someone threw at firework which exploded next to the horse and all hell broke loose, then the burger shed went over...as you said...a long time ago!

elm park was the 80's Grandad, as you say the burger shed got turned over and the few OB there given a rough time before the gates were opened and we were let out, a few got nicked though when they got outside

ah yes sod1, didn't it all kick off in a beer garden pre match and then after the game Brighton were gathered in a pub just off the main town centre and the OB got the jitters and held people there then escorted Brighton back to the station, pub at the bottom of the hill got attacked by all accounts but it turned out to be Brighton in there  just what i was told mate .

The rivalry started like Cain and Abel's, Brighton as Cain and palace as Abel, true to the story palace will die very soon(because of poor attendances).

The end.

1982 ? I was there , they came in , chanted " the white horse , the white horse" and were on their toes straight back out again in double quick time when the WSF fronted them.

I always thought the rivalry was borne out of the fact palace were too scared of millwall

I was there as well, marched back to Selhurst Station after the game and held in that undercover walkway leading up to the platform for what seemed like hours.

I remember the shed incident and the firework, but i thought it was more mid-80s.
