If AFC do get into the football league and need a bigger venue to play, won't they face the same problem as Wimbledon did before they moved to MK?
If they do have somewhere capable of hosting league football, why the hell did Wimbledon move to MK in the first place?

i dont recall the full story but i think Plough Lane their old home was lost to developers along the way and there was no alternative in the borough. with new mananagment/club, Merton council has been more obliging and i think the new ground could grow somewhat.

yeah but it's owned by gateshead council and is mainly for athletics
they tend to play infront of about 500 people

dropping's not a term they'd use, more sort of levelling out. There was alot of curiosity during their first season (they did 'an Albion' by attracting loads of potential new fans, by getting over 6000 through the gate for the last match of the season but played shit and lost 1 nil) they do however still have an average gate on par with landlords Bury (2,200) and regularly take 1,000 to away matches.

When they were in the lower divisions, away clubs hired bigger grounds to accomodate them eg Blackpool Rovers (or maybe Blackpool Mechanics) hired Bloomfield Road.

Yes and the few thousand docile fans that did were met with a mounted police escort back to the station much to our annoyance and the bemusement of local residents.
Was apparently a "dry run" for the palace game - thus making the game all ticket, although most the ground was empty...
.. very empty. It was right in the middle of the boycott of the ground by Wimbledon fans
The following palace game wasn't much better. Trying to get of the ground early, I had trouble convincing the police that I lived in London. When a crowd gathered trying to leave - they eventually agreed to open the gates.
As I left the ground I got hit in the face by a WPC with a riot shield who thought the door had been forced.
Well let's say it as it is - I was assaulted by a WPC upon leaving the ground.
Completely over the top, completely indefensible and acknowledged as a huge cock up by the police themselves apparently.
In modern times two of the worst examples of football policing I've experienced.

Plough lane is now a block of flats! A shame but i'm sure they can go through a slow progression by redeveloping kingsmeadow in stages, as it stands it is just about league standard.

Good friend of mine is a AFC fan and travels to all home and away games. Incredible the rise in their fortunes over the years. Great to see them in the league within the next 3 - 5 years.

Went to watch them at Bognor when our home game with Northampton was called off. They had in excess of 1500 fans down at Bognor and won 5-1. Nice to be able to have a pint and watch the game at the same time.
