the spec is great but the build quality is SHIT! Our company bought a few of them and the casing has cracked on all of them in the same place.

That's about the only good thing about my HP Compaq - it's hardy as hell. But slower than a snail.

Suppose build quality wouldn't matter so much, as it's only gonna be a computer for use on days off at home.

I use an Acer laptop at home and at work.

The work one travells about with me to building sites and appears pretty robust, to be honest.

Certainly no complaints from me so far. I think they're both just coming up to a year old now.

Know two people who have bought them, and both had to send them back within 2 weeks, one for mousepad screwing up, the other for the same as well as the DVD drive f***ing up. When I replaced my laptop in January was determined no to get ACER, instead I got an HP and very happy I am with it

I bought a acer aspire 3000 laptop.
good value but have had to send back after 6 months due to cracking around the hindge area.
After sales were good to deal with and returned it back quite quick.
Apart from that no problems and would buy another.

I've just bought a dell for around the same price (a little more)

-64 X2 TL50 (1.6GHz, 256K) Processor
-15.5 inch XGA TFT Display with TrueLife 1280x800
-1024MB RAM
-DVD+/-RW Drive
-ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 256MB Grapics Card
-80gb Hard Drive

£514.25

Only the basic software (Vista + Works) because I've got all the software already.

Sounds pretty good. Do you know what Dell's after sales are like?
