In a pile of football shirts
War Pigs by Black Sabbath.
1916 by Motorhead.
Why by Discharge

pretty stonewall anti war songs, perhaps not automatic considerations, but powerful nonetheless.

Not sure if it's been on as half of them won't show on my iTouch, but this is the most poignient I think. Nearly 20 years old and more relevant than ever.

I don't think any artist has ever encapsulated the sheer futility of war better than these geniuses.

A surprisingly late entry for Eric Bogle's other classic.

Also surprising that I couldn't find a decent Men They Couldn't Hang version of it, so here are the Fureys doing it:

Jona Lewie wrote this as an anti war song but his record company latched on to the "wish I was at home for Christmas" line and promoted it as a Christmas single. The rest, as they say, is history, earnt both parties a small fortune.

The original is by garth brooks, but he doesn't like his stuff being on youtube, so here's someone singing a cover of it:

Beat me to it dammit!

I've got a friend, he's a pure-bred killing machine,
He said he's waited his whole damn life for this,
I knew him well when he was seventeen,
Now he's a man who'll be dead by Christmas.

And, so...
Everybody's going to war,
But we don't know what we're fighting for,
Don't tell me it's a worthy cause,
No cause could be so worthy.
