anything ending with "Ham", they put a pause in ie Berming-Ham, Totten-Ham

That is odd! I was listening to the radio this morning and the Aloo-min-um thing was discussed, turns out on that one they are using the correct pronunciation the metal was named Aluminum by the geologist that first identified it and the Brits, for some reason, added an "I"

The 'i' was added for consistency with other stuff, apparently.

And the one that really gets me is: harrassment. It comes from the verb to harry and should be pronounced as in harrisment NOT ha-rass-ment.
