Absolutely right. The number of kids murdered by strangers has been remarkably constant from the 50s to the present date. Thankfully, it is also very low about 4 or 5 a year. I know that one is too many but it shows that the perception is much worse than the reality.
I remember when Kevin Lyon (?) was killed in the 60s, my parents didn't for one moment say that I shouldn't walk the mile over the Downs to school, although they stressed that I shouldn't talk to strangers. I don't think anyone's habits changed as a result of that murder.
