[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

Well, this was a nice surprise this morning. https://covid.joinzoe.com/ The estimated number of people in the UK with symptomatic covid-19 has been bobbling along at a similar level for a few weeks now on the symptom tracker app website. Dropped a bit, crept up a bit, but nothing very...

    [Politics] Jacinda Arden

I think that concern is/was rising pretty quickly. My belief is that the stunt with the coal may have given him the short term boost to get him over the line in the election but will come back to haunt him. In Australia, as globally, concern about climate change is only going in one direction...

Obvious caveats apply - absolutely no guarantee that the vaccine will work. And the timescales are highly ambitious. But still. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/04/astrazeneca-is-set-to-make-two-billion-doses-of-a-coronavirus-vaccine.html Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is aiming to produce 2...

[Politics] Piers Morgan v Rudi Gulliani

Piers Morgan sometimes gets it right. Often gets it wrong. But whatever he does it is always for the wrong reason. He's neither a decent journalist nor a decent human being.

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

The Kings College app updated today to give an estimate on 3rd June, based on data from 17th to 30th May. https://covid.joinzoe.com/ Daily new cases are down a further 17% from previous week for UK (I am slightly suspicious that this is exactly the same % as the fall from the week before, but...

I think they would be first to say that their methodology cannot give a perfectly accurate number (although over time with more and more people reporting, and with the addition of random testing, I'm sure they are getting more accurate). So the small fluctuations over the last few weeks are...

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

Hey. Good news thread. Elsewhere - gloves off, but here we all still love and respect each other. No matter how hard that may be! So, here's the chart from the Covid 19 symptom tracker, showing estimated numbers to end of May for people with symptomatic covid-19 (below 70 only) It started to...

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

So let's get this thread back on track. Over on the Coronavirus symptom tracker they have started to augment their (3.7m) people self-reporting with random testing data to give more and more accurate estimates. Estimated overall new infections across UK are down 17% on previous week and South...

[Albion] If we were playing at home on Saturday and fans could attend...

I would not go. It's too early. Partly about my own risk (I fall into the category of 'would probably be OK, but would rather not find out') but mainly because I think it would be the wrong decision in terms of the common good. I am in the 'somewhat more optimistic' camp. I think there are...

[NSC] Close the Coronavirus sub-forum and move threads back to the main board?

No, stick with it as is. You got it spot on and I don't think it's time to change yet. We are a very long way from back to normal. Plenty of people will still be struggling and anxious, even more so as restrictions are lifted, and confusion and doubt over the best way to manage risk starts to...

feeling very similar to you really. Can't get excited, I'll probably watch the games once they start just out of interest but I don't care what league we end up in anymore. Just seems so unimportant now. I just look forward to going to the Amex again, however long it takes, and feeling safe to...

    Will Cummings go?

Which is great. But I have been told by several people in a position to know, that it will be the angry letters and emails from individual constituents pouring in that will have MPs in a panic. They are not used to real people actually giving a genuine sh*t about stuff. And when it happens it...

    Shameful

I think this is one of the most perceptive comments I have read on this forum, or indeed anywhere else I'd never looked at it like this before and I think you are absolutely spot on.

    Will Cummings go?

Lot's of genuine, personal messages, from angry constituents are about the only thing guaranteed to get the attention of MPs. Orchestrated email campaigns have to hit the million + mark before they get close to the impact of a few hundred angry local voters.

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

To be honest, given that there is still a LOT of unknowns, and a LOT of risks in being too quick in easing up, and given what I witnessed and heard about public behaviour yesterday - I'd also be very careful about putting out too much optimism. I don't like the levels of fear being generated, it...
