I must confess, I equally can go to the National film theatre being high brow with my head up my arse and thoroughly enjoy Tarkovsky's Stalker or Solaris, while the next weekend equally enjoy Avengers Infinity War and End Game. I like Star Wars and Star Trek in equal measure. What can I say...
Wasn't it Tarkovsky who intentionally made the first part of Stalker so utterly boring so as to get rid of all the riff raff out of the cinemas so he only had those appreciating his art remaining?
That wasn't as bad as Kurosawa's Throne of Blood which I went to see at the NFT, there is a...
Yes definitely, I was chucking it in there as films that closely or loosely follow the books / stories they are based on. In this case the 2 really compliment each other and anyone who enjoyed the film it's well worth reading the short story.

Staying close to the subject of Denis Villeneuve films, Arrival is fairly close to the short story 'Story of Your Life' by Ted Chiang. I got bought a collection of Ted's shorts in a book and stumbled upon Story of Your Life, and while set up differently in structure, about 1/4 way in I was 'hang...
And prior to those he did Sicario which is another corker of a film. The soundscapes and tension that builds, never has there been a more exciting traffic jam in cinematic history than Sicario. :D
Apologies, didn't see that, thought the general discussion was present tense. Personally when it was mandatory, my experience was the majority were wearing masks. I mean, it's illegal to use your mobile phone while driving, but every single day walking the dog I see loads doing it, so I wasn't...
The law in England changed on 19 July 2021 didn't it?
"From 19 July 2021, there is no longer a legal requirement to wear face coverings in indoor settings or on public transport.
Lifting restrictions does not mean the risks from COVID-19 have disappeared, but at this new phase of the pandemic...
I think it's less about respect and more about conformity. We don't generally as a species like to be the ones that stick out, so human nature is to conform. If in Spain it's mandatory in many situations, then it's normal for more people to have to be wearing masks, therefore conformity is to...
Why should private companies be enforcing something the government has told them they don't have to do?
The moment we said it's a personal choice, then that was that. And be careful not to mask or vax shame the nimbys while you're at it!
Absolutely, let's shut schools for millions of kids again, but a load of multimillionaire footballers can still play Saturday with thousands of fans watching without getting vaccinated because they have a choice.
The contradictions are amazing really.
Trouble with that argument it's like saying kids are only transmitting in school, not at football, gymnastics class, or whatever else they're doing outside of school. Last thing we should be doing is impacting kid's educations again without exploring other options. It would be utterly ridiculous...
We can't know how many listed ST tickets have sold on the exchange already – could be hundreds, with other STs then listing theirs as the week goes on. Hard to say really. We've sold out our match day tickets AND potentially re-sold hundreds of ST holders tickets who can't go.
It's been moved to an 8pm KO at the pleasure of Sky. Boxing Day is reduced transport services as it is, let alone after 10pm at night when the game will finish. It's a bit of a piss take.
As I said to you on the other thread, listed my pair yesterday and they sold within a couple of hours. Singles are always tougher to shift.
It's on TV, we still have Covid worries for a lot of people, tickets for a centrally positioned seat are £58 for an adult.
Ticket exchange being open...
I thought most franchises were defacto renationalised in all but name anyway. Southern is basically managed by central government as I understood it. Obviously it's not being advertised in these terms as that would be admitting failure of the privatisation.
