Sorry to hear about all this my old fruit. Some great advice on here. I can’t add anything other than things are not always as they first seem. These are complicated areas and it’s easy for even health professionals to set out down the wrong path. You’re a good man.
I can’t see that many would do differently from our Graham, but we’d all understand there was some price to be paid. And that includes not being able to waltz back.
Every manager starts with a well of goodwill that over time gets replenished or depleted. Potter would start with a dry well. The first run of poor results would make for a toxic atmosphere.
And I remember reading about Horizon in Computer Weekly back in the day. There won’t have been many reading it then that didn’t think “it’s the computer system”.
I find it unbelievable when senior people use the “I’m not an IT expert” or similar line. Your staff maintain a set of accounts. Can someone from outside come in and add their own transactions without your staff knowing. It’s that simple.
There needs to be a few prosecutions.
